'In history', lol. These statues were always a problem, that's the whole reason why they were made after all, as symbols to intimidate the black community in those areas.

It's not a #1 priority, except to conservatives who are so overwhelmed by the 'us vs. them' mentality that they can't admit they made a mistake. It's just something that's an embarrassing relic of the past in the South that most rational people don't want to spend public money supporting anymore. This should be a no-brainer for everyone involved: don't use public money/spaces to support monuments to people who committed treason to defend the right to own other people as property which were erected as monuments to race-based domination.

How much simpler does it get than that?

How about instead of worrying about stupid statues you instead focus on not alienating voters next year so you don't lose important shit in life?

It's been a problem for a long time, particularly since the demise of Jim Crow 50 years ago. They were erected as monuments to White Supremacy & they still stand for it today. They are an affront to black Americans and the concept of racial equality. They were purpose built to serve those ends.
