I have a Gainward 6800GT Golden Sample. I was looking into replacing the heatsink and fans for something a little quieter and came accross the NV5. I suspect, but I'm not sure that I can't fit this cooler to my card becasue the plate that has the output sockets on it is 2 PCI openings wide. Am I correct in thinking that the NV5 needs to exhaust throught the PCI opening immediately next to the AGP slot?
Has anyone found another cooler that will fit on one of these cards - it's the one with the full width red cover.
Here's the best pic I could find.

It is kind of like when are car's warrenty is voided because say you put a aftermarket radiator on that is more effecient than the factory and say the powersteering went out but when you bring it to the dealer they tell you "your warrenty is voided on the whole car because it has a aftermarket radiator." You and i both know that a heatsink and fan that lowers temps will not cause the card to fail.

My Logic is flawed? Your logic is the one that is flawed. You are comparing apple and oranges. A person who voids the warrenty on his video card and then returns the video card isn't like a person who voids a warrenty on his radiator and then gets his car repaired under warrenty because of a problem with the power steering (though voiding your auto warranty and then getting your car repaired under warranty is stll wrong).

A person who replaces the heatsink/fan with an incorrect heatsink/fan and then pretends that it was the manufacturers fault that the video card died and sends it back to get it replaced is disgusting. His change was related to the component failing. It isn't like he replaced the video card heatsink/fan and then returned the sound card when it died. Your analogy is flawed.

You don't like hearing about morals? Too bad. If you don't want to hear that violating a warranty and sending back the product for warranty service after it breaks is disgusting then maybe you shouldn't talk about how you violated the warranty and sent back the broken part anyway. Actions have reprocussions. If you don't like hearing about how disgusting it is, don't make your post in the first place.

The video card dint die after the new fan. It lived happy life (over a half a year) and then suddenly one nice day it died.Only the fan was moving and that?s was about all it did. I was pretty upset (it cost me some good $$$). I went to the other PC store to test it and they told it was dead ( I dint have other pc to run some test on it) and I asked why? They dint know. (After that I read that some cards had faulty memory or some thing like that and others had the same problem).
What the hell I supposed to to? Take it to the warranty and say hay guys the card is dead but you can take this nice VGA silencer if you want to. And thanks for telling me to **** off when I had problems with the card and wanted some advice.

My dead card looked as it was new.

Do not vine if you don?t know all the story. And crying F*** load: I dint avoid the warranty. If I asked the PC store "Is it ok if I replace the cooler ?" the say Yes its ok but if you break something then we will notice and the warranty is off. (some stores sell the cards and if you want to they will but on the custom cooler for you)

And about the topic: I took the Zalman 700 CU cooler and my temps went soooooo down. Max tem was 60 and the idle is about 30-37. The fan is quiet.
Now the only thing that makes noise is the nForce 4 chip but I already have a good cooler for it. Going to try it tomorrow.

But still I want the NV silencer. Only good thing about this cooler is that it looks good and It is suitable for most of the new cards.

And forgot to tell you mr: smc13 I'm hoping to get a job in the PC store (repairing PC s and fixing other computer related problems people might have). So I?m not the n00best client. I always want to avoid taking things back to the store because I hate that.

I believe the Zalman would fit on that card. The newer NV5 models come with a new bracket for the dual slot coolers. You simply change the entire bracket.

How are you going to reuse the RAM sinks?

Clean the old thermal tape from the RAM sinks and video card memory (they come of easily) and buy new thermal tape or use Arctic Silver clue to attach them to the ram.

Thanks guys, I just ordered the Zalman VF700-Cu. If it's as good as you all say I'll be very happy.

anyone know of a good passive solution for the 6800 series video cards? I have a 120mm fan blowing on my video card and was hoping to get a huge passive HSF to replace the noisy one

I just installed one of these baby because my leadtek 6200 fan was lound as heck.. I don't really know the temperture because the video card doesn't have a sensor. The installation is easy (After watching the installations video clip at zalman website).
