The Voodooo name is so old, that name recognition is fading fast anyways.
I think reusing the name would be stupid. There is name recognition, but there are other marketing moves other than name recognition. I think most people get tired of seeing the same name rehashed with another number next to it.
nVidia needs to get name recognition on their company name, because that will always stick. But they need to keep doing what they are doing, and coming out with new names every so often. That away people KNOW by the name that it's a new product.
"Hey did you hear about the new nVidia <insert name here>?"
"Yeah, it's not a GeForce, so it must be new!"
And you use marketing qoutes such as "From the makers of the GeForce and TNT series of cards." And "The next generation card from nVidia."
OOOh, then people know it's new, and give people credit. They like imaginative names. And seeing a new name on a box is more satisfying than the same old regurgitated name they've seen a million times.
Business and marketing people are stupid to me. If I ran a company I'd do everything wrong according to them, but I bet I'd be more successful. They rely too much on tactic, and not what the real world can appreciate.
You throw new names at them and they know it's a new product. You market the product, not the name. Then people will learn to respect the company that makes the product, and will value a new product with a new name.
my 2 cents.
