NV30 Next Year

XBITLABS.COM posted comments supposedly from NVIDIA president saying no NV30 until Jan 2003 or Feb 2003 due to yield problems. Not good at all to miss a holiday window no matter how good your product will be, I'm disappointed but will wait the extra month or so just to see their product before buying something. They've had good products so far and I've never been a fan of ATI with the exception of their AIW product.

Yawn...I remember Nvidia got downgraded back in early-2000 because 3dfx had released the Voodoo 5 and that was gonna wipe them out.

We all know how that turned out.

The general financial analysts don't have a fraction of a clue compared to your average ATF member! Nvidia's fab had teething pains with the .13 fab size, but once they're up and running, they'll be set for 2003 while ATI goes thru their planned die shrink.

A bigger concern is whether the spat they had with M$ over payments for X-Box chips. The rumour is that they may be out of the running for X-Box 2 chips. We'll see. Considering that nForce is spun off from what they did developing the X-Box chipset and the potential performance of the NV30, M$ won't go for a lesser chipset if it will hurt their overall agenda of universal dominance.

Nvidia is really digging a hole for themselves. They'd better hope that the FUD works its magic....

Just another sign that nvidia keeps slipping. Oh and DefRef, nVidia and ATi both share the same fab so they won't have to deal with any of the yield headaches nVidia has had to put up with. A die shrink shouldn't be tough at all for ATi to accomplish when the time is right. They made the perfect decision by sticking to .15 micron and releasing the 9700. It effectively put them ahead by >1 product cycle which is huge in this industry. When NV30 debuts you'll see R350 around march/april and that's bad news for nVidia. Late summer/early fall you'll see R400 so I predict ATi will be able to keep their lead for a long time except for maybe 1 or 2 month durations. The legal battle nVidia had with MS is now over, so I'm sure they'll get the design contract. If not, there's always ATi to look towards and they've demonstrated they're more than capable of delivering products that exceed what nVidia has to offer.
