Anyone know what the prices will be like for the NV40 and the R420?

No official pricing yet, but I would expect an MSRP for the new cards around $499. That's about what the last set of high-end cards (9800XT, 5950U) came out at.

NV40 is being paper-released tomarrow so look for reviews. Only thing I've heard is that NV claims a 3dmark03 score of 12k+ (with optimized drivers).

The NV40 is not being paper launched tomorrow...it's launching on April 13th, according to nVIDIA.

"Tuesday, April 13th, NVIDIA will be hosting an unprecedented all-day LAN party in conjunction with the introduction of our next-generation GeForce GPU."

High enough that you will probably want to wait 6 months, just in time for rumors of the next generation of even faster cards, in which the cycle repeats itself.

ATi's paper launch may be the 26th, though cards may be available at retail the very same day. ATi has something else happennig on the 13th, though, which may be an editor's day (like nV had last week, presumably to plug NV40 and possibly hand out review samples).
