Anyone run into this problem? I'll be going about my business and all of the sudden my screen will go blue and tell me nv4_disp.dll caused a page fault. This has happened several times since getting my GeForce 4 ti 4600. It then dumps all my physical memory and reboots. Anyone have any idea? Could it be a problem with my 27.42 drivers?

I was having the same problem on my system. I have a p4 1.6A @ 2.4 and it would happen all the time. The fix for me was to bump up the core voltage on the cpu. Don't know why, everything else ran stable, but I haven't gotten a blue screen after I did that.

It got blazing hot up here for a few days, and I had to drop mine back to stock.. core voltage/and fsb. Still does it.

had the same problems with my 1.6A @ 2.1GHz. It would just blue screen and reboot, and strangely enough, wouldn't happen in games at all, it
would happen when i was just browsing the web or opening a folder randomly. I had tried everything from cpu voltage to putting all memory settings
down to safe settings. Then i got tired of dealing with drivers and possible conflicts with there new detonators so i did this:

Reformatted and installed WinXP Pro fresh, did the windows update online first (important to do it before any drivers), then install newest AGP patch (SIS 1.09f for me)
then install the newest detonators 28.32. And guess what, i've now been running for 3 days straight without one single blue screen, it's been rock solid.
Windows XP is just likes things to be done a certain way, and i learned the hard way how to do it right.
I had spent like a week trying to figure it out after i got my new Gf4Ti 4400 card. Don't waste anymore of your time, do what i did

nv4_disp.dll etc. etc. is the classic sign of "the loop"
several hundred thousand people beside you also have it
interesting that you guys are P4, but you dont say if its via or intel chipset (thats important)
more interesting that one of you have a Dell, since they deliberately pump up the +3.3V lines on their
PSU unit and mobo power distribution to stop this from happening.

I also have this problem.. But instead of getting a blue screen (xp) I get yellow Shade's all over my Icons on the desktop or in the Exlporer.. Then it locks up.. once i reboot, Xp pops up a Report window, and says the NV4_disp.dll has caused the problem.. I have a Brand new Asus a7v266-e with the new Via 4in 1 drivers installed and 23.11 vid drivers installed.. I'm running a T-bird 1.2 gig, not overclocked and 512 of Crucial DDR 2100.. Should i to bump up the Vcore on the CPU and see's if that solves it or ? Oh also this is the second Vid card i have had.. the First one that was shipped to me had bad memory on it so had to ship it back =(

I got this same error, it happened to me after installing the new Det's, so I went back to 23.11's and installed over the nv4_disp.dll file. So far so good.

This is a very well known problem and if you do some searches you can find a horde of information about it. There are many things that can fix it. It is most commonly seen on VIA chipset motherboards and supposedly has something to do with the "aggressive" nature of the way XP uses things like video acceleration.

Do some research on this, there is no reason to put up with it... unfortunately there is no "canned" fix for it, you just need to start doing some research on the web and start trying to isolate it to a specific fix for your rig.

The first thing to try is to make sure that you have the latest BIOS, chipset drivers and video drivers for your system and to not overclock anything.

you can:

run a single stick of RAM
switch to the newest mobo you can find
change from ACPI HAL to Standard
play musical chairs with your PCI cards
Change AGP drive value to FA or EA
Get OLDER bios (less performance)
get Antec True PSU 480 W or higher
Use 21.83 dets
Change bios to 2X or 1X AGP = no difference in benches
Install Via 4 in 1 in "Standard mode" AGP in conjunction with the latter

if your system freezes/crashes to desktop/spontaneous reboots/goes black screen/or refuses to boot
with GF4, while attempting 3D acceleration (web/gaming), then that means your box WILL NOT RUN AGP
4X as configured.

All fixes DOWNGRADE or CHOKE your system so that it will not be stressed into failing.

its that simple.

Well, I installed the 23.11's (i had the 23.32's) and wrote over the nv4 file and now my system is good as new again.

Slow your system down? I guess if you're desperate.

You might want to change the Windows and buttons style to classic (Display Props, Appearance) and turn of some of the other 2D eye candy until you find a reliable fix. I had a friend do this and it fixed it for him. Obviously this only works on XP, and only if you're having probs in 2D versus 3D.

What motherboards (Athlon - Athlon XP) with RAID don't have this problem? I currently have an Abit KT7A-RAID and I've downgraded to one stick of ram and Windows XP actually wants to install now! I didn't have any problems until I removed a stick of ram, ran XP, then put it back in. Oh well! So, what motherboards support RAID as well as don't have the LOOP problem? Tell me some!
