For those of us who don't have one, how does a 1080ti compare on Windows?
Three watercooled 1080Ti @ 2.0 GHz, Windows 7,
X99 host with 2.8 GHz Xeon with ncpus-6 ODLK tasks running,
with three randomly downloaded tasks:
PRCG 11719 ___ 1,130,000 estimated PPD
PRCG 11720 ___ 1,120,000
PRCG 11726 ___ 1,170,000

I believe this was lower in the past. Seems as if batches with particularly well credited WUs are currently available.

Einstein@home:
GTX 1080 is 10:42
GTX 1080Ti is 7:50
RTX 2080: 8m16s (Windows 10, host 12260865)
https://einsteinathome.org/goto/comment/166982

The user claims same overall productivity and same power consumption at the wall for this host which was equipped with a GTX 1070 and a GTX 1060 before the RTX went in.

Further down the thread the user reports failures with a certain type of Einstein WUs, which he hasn't fully investigated yet.

1080Ti owners: Better stick with the 399.** or older drivers, the 400 series drivers are reportedly tanking gaming performance by up to 9% on the 1080Ti. The 400 series drivers are putting a bit too much emphasis on the RTX cards, because surely it's not intentional... to skew performance numbers in favor of a new product ...with all the reviews and articles going on.

Going ahead with an EVGA Geforce RTX 2080 XC card in my new work pc along with a Core i9-7900X and 64GB DDR4-2666 and a couple TB of SSD.
That should do me for a while at work, I can leave it running DC while I'm away from work.
My home machine is an MSI gaming laptop with a GTX 1080 and an i7 8700K, it works nicely enough.

I ran benchmarks after updating the Nvidia drivers.

11/30/2018 9:53:14 AM | | CUDA: NVIDIA GPU 0: GeForce RTX 2080 (driver version 417.01, CUDA version 10.0, compute capability 7.5, 4096MB, 3553MB available, 10598 GFLOPS peak)
11/30/2018 9:53:14 AM | | OpenCL: NVIDIA GPU 0: GeForce RTX 2080 (driver version 417.01, device version OpenCL 1.2 CUDA, 8192MB, 3553MB available, 10598 GFLOPS peak)

I'm not up on all the latest crazy things the kids are doing these days, so if there are tweaks or anything I should know about to make things go even better please share.

I found some FAH numbers for the RTX 2070 over at the folding forum. He overclocked it using FAHBench as a stability test.

Here's an excerpt from the post:

"It is installed in a Linux rig running Ubuntu 18.04 Desktop in a PCIe2 x16 slot.
AMD Athlon II X2 2.9GHz processor, 3 GB DDR2
Shader Clock 2040MHz (Overclocked)
Memory Clock 14400MHz

My Zabbix server polling "FAHClient --send-command ppd" once a minute shows a 3-day average of 1.27MPPD, Max 1.38MPPD"

Step up GPU- Win10 running F@H :

No idea why it does not show the PPD correctly, It should be in the bonus by now.

Double-check that the passkey is entered on the fahcontrol "configure/identity". You do have at least 10 units under that passkey, right ?

Yup, it is my original passkey and it has been giving credit to my TeAm user name at F@H. (11 WUs by 0300 today) Ill check the log against what the base credit shows compared to the given credit.

Base credit: 4879, Estimated credit: 58129

So it is in the bonus, just not showing PPD correctly. It is a fresh install of F@H, no clue as to why it is doing this. This is typical of my luck anyway

Yes, but in the fresh install, does your passkey show in FAHControl on this computer ? You have to add it every time for every instance of F@H

Yes, I understand this. Yes it shows on this machine, I have even double checked to make sure it was input correctly.

It runs some PG projects faster than a 1080Ti, small sample, I just wanted to see what it could do on short projects first. Impressed so far...........

GPU/ GPU time/ CPU time/ Credit/ Project

I wasn't trying to say you did not understand, I have just never seen it. One time I had a typo on my name, and it was one letter in the wrong case and even that did it !

Not sure why your is not working, I have never seen that.

I suppose I should have put a emoji smile in there, wasn't meant to be a "snarky" reply. Apologies if it seemed that way, I have never seen it do that either. I have rebooted and every other thing I can think of to get it to straighten itself out. It is not wanting to cooperate at this time. It is getting a bonus, I ran some on a 1080 to make sure since I haven't ran any F@H since last December.

I didn't take it as snarky. I just want to be sure people don't think I am trying to insult them when I point out the obvious

Just a quick notation: FAH client still sucks compared to BOINC. Soooooo many stuck downloading WU's....aaarrrgh! AND worse, no easy way to 'dislodge' the stuck download (in linux, which I am still a noob).

Linux is 30% faster at F@H. All my folding boxes (except one) are linux.

Yup but it takes me 1000x longer to try to get it to work, in the end it didn't and I gave up!!! I have downloaded from F@H, Software manager and anywhere else that resembles a download. I always get an error for F@H this or F@H that. I rarely run F@H since I have gotten in to BOINC. (Been exactly a year(almost anyway- 353 days) since I have done any Folding)

Try the below procedure. With a decent computer and an NVME SSD, you can install, configure and eveything in less than an hour.. Works with cinnamin mint 19:

First, disable secure boot. The easiest way I found was to delete the keys in key management.

Next, after booting with a linux mint USB or CD, install it. Use an empty disk, or one you don't care if its wiped clean.

Then open a terminal window and do the below commands

wget http://launchpadlibrarian.net/109052632/python-support_1.0.15_all.deb

sudo dpkg -i python-support_1.0.15_all.deb

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

sudo apt-get install nvidia-387 (or if it appears on the linix home page drivers list, you can do it from there.

sudo apt-get install nvidia-opencl-icd-387

sudo apt-get install libcuda1-387

sudo apt install ocl-icd-opencl-dev

sudo apt-get -y install python-gnome2 mesa-common-dev freeglut3-dev nvidia-settings gedit

Install fah client and console using these links:
Folding at home client (background service) https://folding.stanford.edu/releas...-testing-64bit/v7.4/fahclient_7.4.4_amd64.deb
Folding at home control panel (user interface) https://folding.stanford.edu/releas...testing-64bit/v7.4/fahcontrol_7.4.4-1_all.deb

cd /var/lib/fahclient

sudo wget http://fah-web.stanford.edu/file-releases/public/GPUs.txt

Then fire up fahcontrol and add the GPU client(will show under education in the menu), and maybe also the remote access by adding ,192.168.1.1-192.168.1.255 to the two IP places

sudo service FAHClient stop
sudo service FAHClient start

Fixed the PPD issue:

This is on a new install of Windows 10, minimal programs installed on the rig. Clock offset was 14hrs for some reason in Win, not sure why the time zone was incorrect. I reset it and the PPD estimate started working. The numbers in the bottom correspond to Core frequency: 2055 (cut off obviously), CPU temp: 56*C, GPU temp: 55*C in an enclosed case. Ambient room temp: ~21*C. The fans are set aggressively- 100%- and are (to me) not annoyingly loud, even WITH my hearing correction hardware.
It is OC'd with the OC scanner in Afterburner- EVGA Software, although pretty, didn't work very good for me. (kept crashing) The card has been stable and when it hits its temp and OC- GPU core only, probably could hit the memory some too (max OC is 2100 depending on project, temps might hit 57*C) and it does not budge off of it. I am pretty impressed with its BOINC and Folding abilities. If it wasn't for "step up" offered by EVGA I would not have this GPU, IMO it's pretty expensive to just "crunch" with. I can say it does give my 1080Ti a run for its money on most projects thrown at it.
