After doing some research BTW sorry if this has been posted before; but after research I found out the difference between a 460 and 470 is the memory bandwidth, 460 is 256bit memory interface while 470 is 320bit GDDR5 and also has more Cuda Cores then 460. Also the 470 comes with 1.2GB ram. Its totally worth paying 50 dollars more for all this.

Few concerns before I buy. Overvolting the card for major OCing.
I heard MSI afterburner does that, but I don't want a app to load at boot up everytime to change the voltage. Is there a way to change the voltage then uninstall MSI afterburner ?

Also after the overvolt what can a EVGA 470 superclocked do. Im hoping for

900Mhz Core

The shaders and memory I don't know much about where they should be.

a 470 is a good 259.99$ or more... maybe you should wait until the 580 launch (9th of november rumored), or 6950/6970's come out (if you can wait like 2 weeks), they might press the price down abit.

I think a 470 is a better buy than a 460, even though Id probably opt to go for a 6870 if I had to pick between that and a 460.

470@ 800core/1560shader/3650mem gets pretty close to a 480 stock.

Awesome thanks Arkadrel for that information. Yes I will wait until November 9th or whenever the 580 GTX comes out then hopefully I can get it for less then the current price @ www.amazon.com for EVGA 470 Superclocked 269.99 free shipping.

If this price falls to 220 its a steal deal. Probably going to be another month or two probably end of the year that I get it. Also thanks for your information on the clock speeds..

There's always something new in progress. Either you want to buy, and tweakboy has been talking about buying for months, or you don't want to buy.

Nothing wrong with waiting abit... if the 580/570 ect are out a weeks time 9th november,... prices should go down abit.

On the other hand... people are saying it ll be a papir launch to please wall street guys because of a bad quarter. And you might not see that many 580s in stores until after christmas. The good news is the 6970/6950s look like they ll hard launch with a decent amount of cards around the 20th. So if you want a card before christmas and dont mind trying a amd card could always go that route.

Well, right before the 6870/6850 launch, 768MB GTX 460's could be had for $130 after MIR and the 1GB for $160 Now they're back up to $150/$190.

I could see waiting when 5770's were $180+ and 5850's were $300. But when prices plummet that's the time to buy.

...B-b-but, the GTX 580 is right around the corner. That for sure will cut prices astronomically. Of course if you wait that long then you might as well hold out for Sandy-Bridge. SB-B2 should be just around the corner from LGA 1155 so thats probably when I would jump. Just wait like another month from there for the 7970 to come out, it will definitely make everything else much cheaper. Well, since we waited this long we might as well check out if the GTX 680 is sweet or not. Just wait a little bit longer for Bulldozer though since it could be a totally sweet architecture if it does indeed have that special sauce AMD claims. Bulldozer didn't work out for consumers, Haswell is just around the corner, what a great time to get new hardware, although the 8970 next week should drop prices astronomically. Of course if you wait that long....

its the 4th here.... nvidia is saying 9th will be their launch date... thats in 5days. I know you can wait and wait and wait and never buy anything... but waiting a week or so or so to see how 580/570 change the market? Possibly even longer... the amd cards will be a hard launch, so tons of cards in shops by their launch date of the 20th (I believe it was).

There's never truly a "good time to buy" when it comes to GPUs. They lose their value faster than any other part of your computer.

If I were in the market currently, I would be looking at a GTX460. I don't think the 470 is worth the extra $$$.

BTW I really don't think that the GTX580 and the 6970 are going to affect the prices of midrange GPUs by much if anything for the time being.

Don't forget the GTX 460 uses about 12W less power at idle compared to GTX 470 and about 70W less at full load!

The idle 460 GPU temperature is about 12 degrees Celsius lower than the 470 and nearly 30 degrees Celsius lower at full load!

Those are not insignificant numbers by any means are really scare me away from the GTX 470.

Wow nenforcer I didnt know that WOW.. thats crazy hmmm

but memory bandwidth matters soo much and 460 is 256bit compared to I believe 384bit

Also there are more CUDAs in the 470. Your right it takes up a lot of juice.. but maybe its worth it,,,, or maybe we wait for a 560 that will be using much less watts ...thx

I knew that the prices might drop, but I bit the bullet anyways to buy my two Gigabyte GTX460s. Sometimes you just gotta draw the line and committ. I'm very happy with my cards right now I could care less what comes out over the next three years or so

Well newegg is having 10% off all graphics cards right now...

Promo Code: EMCZZYR24

So you could get the EVGA 470SC for $242.99 shipped or a 6870 for about $220. I'm considering jumping on two EVGA GTX 470s(vanilla) for about $470 shipped and dumping this 480 on ebay... although IF the GTX 580 turns out to be a hard launch I could use my step-up to get one. I'm also considering a 6970 if it does turn out to be a 2GB card.

I'm not sure you'll be able to hit 900MHz on an air cooled 470 unless you don't mind running the fan at full blast... either way 800MHz shouldn't be an issue like another member said. So basically you'll have ~ GTX 480 performance for $240.

BTW: Great monitor you've got there. I had an IBM C220p for quite a few years...I always wanted an FW900 but I couldn't find a decent deal on one.
