I'm sure you guys are right... the X800XT/X850XT cards are probably faster, but methinks PC Surgeon is an NVidia fan.

There's some folks that just won't buy ATI and there's some folks that just won't buy NVidia. Of course there are the smart ones that just buy whatever is the fastest for the cheapest price (I'm not that smart).

Me, I'm an NVidia-only buyer, but mostly because I'm lazy, not because of any illogical hatred for ATI. You see, I have three computers in the house (all with NVidia cards)... I'm too lazy to download/save and install more then one set of drivers for all three of my computers. If I bought an ATI card I'd have to start keeping and installing multiple sets of drivers... It's a lazy excuse, but I'm a lazy guy.

Either that, or it's because I'm too old... I remember years of crappy inferior ATI cards. They were always slower/clunkier then 3DFX or NVidia cards "back in my day". I know times have changed, but maybe I'm too old for that... I dunno. Back in my day we didn't have fast ATI cards... we just bought 3DFX or NVidia... that's the way it was and we liked it.

Have had my 6800Gt since August 8th 2004. It is still chugging along just fine for the games I play. I even tried the fear demo and was pleasantly surprised it was playable at 1600X1200.

The main games I play now (DoD:Source, WoW) have no problem running on this card. Because of that I decided to wait until the next generation comes out and upgrade then.

Great card for the money from what I can tell.

I'm just about to give my 6800GT up for a 7800GTX for dual monitors. My 6800GT has a flaw in that it flickers as though the DVI port can't handle my 1600x1200x32 resolution on that specific DVI port.

Yeah, I was going to say, that card isn't even near the end of its life cycle.

Settings?

Please reply, thinking about getting one.

The Surgeon

In CoD2 my 6800 128MB (unlocked, but not overclocked) runs the game smoothly at 1280x1024 at max detail, no AA

2.6 GHz P4
1024 MB of RAM

Bought my wife's 9700 non pro almost 3 years ago. It struggles horribly in EQ2 but i'm sure would run other games minimum-medium settings @ 800x600 or maybe 1024. It's old now that's for sure.

Lookin at getting her a 939 system with an x800gto for $440 OR maybe keep the XP/AGP system going a bit longer with a X800XT or something.

Just not sure how well a higher end agp card would perform with an AXP 1700+ processor.

I get to play BF2 over 50fps @1024x768 Low/Medium settings with a 4 pipe MR9700, so I guess the faster clocked and 8 pipe 9700Pro has gotta do much better.

Hey there guys. Christmas is coming up and well, I've been using my 6800GT for quite some time now. I haven't OC'ed, put on a new heatsink, or tweaked around with anything else. I just wanted to see if people still have 6800GT's
"Still" have 6800GTs? I just upgraded to a 6800GT about a month ago. Considering it's still one of the fastest AGP cards you can get (no 7800-love for AGP), and the fact I can't afford a new MB or video card every three months, the 6800GT is KING in my household of three desktop computers. I have a 6800GT, my wife has a 6600GT, and the third computer has a FX5900. We have no plans for any further upgrades in the near-future in our household, so the 6800GT will be our flagship video card for awhile here.

PC Surgeon, I know you've been waiting for the 6800GS, but if you want an upgrade now and a willing to pay a few bucks more for a few FPS more, NewEgg has an AGP 6800GT (eVGA) in stock for under $300 I do believe. Grab it while they still have it... when I bought my BFG 6800GT OC, NewEgg wasn't even carrying ANY AGP 6800GTs.

Yeah I know, and have been debating for about a week now (or more).

But Im interested in playing 3 games mostly, and the most intensive is CoD2. If I can get a card to play that decently, then those other 2 (HL2--DoD:source) shouldnt be a problem.

God I hate budgets!
