Will this card be good enough for BF4 and the like?
Will this card still be good enough in the coming year or two for gaming?

How are frame rates effected by changing my monitor to 120 from 60 refresh?
I have not tried it in games since my video card is kinda junk.

I was looking at reviews on the Gigabyte and Asus, sounds like Asus has heat and noise problems.
been out of market for a while, who makes very good cards in Nvidia line?
quality parts, warranty and repair

I would say it's ok but a 4gb configuration is for sli and it won't be able to fully utilize the extra vram. A 780 is your best bet for 1440p when dealing with a single card.

A single GTX 770 4GB will handle 1440p, but not at max settings. You will have to make some compromises in graphically intensive games.

The only single GPU stock card that can comfortably handle 1440p with high IQ settings is the GTX 780 Ti.. A GTX 780 should suffice as well, as long as it's overclocked.

As far as V-sync, getting a 120 Hz monitor will give you access to higher frame rates provided you game with V-sync turned on. I also think it reduces input lag as well.

I keep hearing this but I don't see why a GTX 770 would have difficulty utilizing it's VRAM, as VRAM is basically just used for storing (and preloading) assets related to rendering.

If a game requires lots of VRAM for say extremely detailed textures, then the GTX 770 would use it just as much as a GTX 780..

The main problem with the GTX 770 when it comes to high resolution is the 256 bit memory bus. Benchmarks have shown that the GTX 770 benefits greatly from overclocking the memory, so it's somewhat bandwidth limited..

So that's where the problem lies if the 770 is limited to due to memory bandwidth, would it not give the same performance as the 2gb? So the safest bet is to just get a 780 if he will not go with sli.

For the most part yes, but the 4GB card will be smoother (frame rate will be more stable with less dips) in certain games like BF4, Crysis 3 and AC IV that will use over 2GB. We're seeing a trend towards higher usage of VRAM with these newer games, especially as the consoles have so much more memory than before.

It wouldn't surprise me to see open world games like Watch Dogs and the Witcher 3 use 2.5, or even 3GB of VRAM, as games will use extra VRAM to preload assets.

So the safest bet is to just get a 780 if he will not go with sli.
Yeah, a 780 should be good, but only if it's overclocked.

2GB is fine for 1680x1050 or 1920x1080. It's more then enough. By the time you'll need 4GB for a game the present cards won't be powerful enough to make use of the extra RAM anyways. I'm using 2 1GB GTX 460 SLI at 1680x1050 and I can even use 4x FSAA and 16x AA without a hiccup. It all depends on the resolution you're going to be playing at primarily.

Id be looking at a GTX 780 Ti for that resolution, especially if this is a single card setup/solution.

I am also running 2 460 in sli. they are 1 Gb cards so there is one limitation.
my monitor is 2560 and yes I play battlefield 4 just fine, not the max seeings but with this res it looks great. I would love to run it at 120Hz but it performance just dives.
I was thinking of a 290x back in October and how by christmas the aftermarket cards would be out at about $520 to 550
ROFL well it should have been like that

So I decided to look at something with more bandwidth and memory to run it.
760 2G with my first thought then read a lot of reviews, not going to be enough.
280X or 770 maybe, well the 280X price is thru the roof and I was left with the 770 as the only thing that is not STUPID expensive.
personally $500 for a video card is a rip off and I mean ALL gaming cards.
but here or there the market is what it is.
770 4G is 380 - 409 and that is about my max for now. I feel that in 6-8 months the market will go down and then there will be the new uber cards anyway.
I even thought of 760 sli but I just don't want to sli, my power supply is an 860 platinum so I know it can do it. and then 760 back to 2Gb for maybe $500 pair
so EVGA, GIGABYTE OR ASUS...who has best components and warranty service ?

Good enough is subjective. You wanna max all settings? Then likely not.

Frame rates are not effected by monitor HZ. You just wont gain any benefit of 120HZ if you run 60 FPS. To utilize the full 120 hz you need to set you goal at 120 fps. I run SLI 780Ti's and with everything maxed I dont keep a constant 120 fps in BF4 @ 1440P.

Truth of the matter is that even a GTX 780 ti just barely manages to get about 60fps on all the top games like BF4, Crysis 3 etc with all settings maxed on 1080p.

So IMO if you want a great experience with high framerates with settings turned up at 1440p then your going to need a 780 series card at the very least.

At $400 I don't know if the value is there for a 770 card, even if it is 4GB. Might as well go up to the aftermarket 780 for $499.99.

Or, 760 4GB SLI for $519.98.

The fact that Nvidia contionously gives the mainstream gpu a 4GB boost first over the high-end singly gpu card of the series kind of erks me.

Such was the case with the 670, and now apparently the 770.

Albeit slower ram, but 4gb's is 4gb's. If its not there, you've hit your limit at 2gb or 3gb no matter what the speed.
