if it means being able to keep cpu and motherboard? Oh yes.Originally posted by: RussianSensation
So you'll pay $300 for a 350mhz 16 pipe card vs. 400mhz 20 pipe PCIe 7800GT for $300?
You can feel alright knowing that the 7800gs is coming in at a different price point, meaning the 6800gs is unlikely to drop in price.Originally posted by: fishbits
You've got to be f-ing kidding me. I bought a 6800 GS late last week which is on its way to me now. Gave up on the hope of them giving us current gen vid cards for AGP, and I hear about this today? Oh well, know I'll like the card I'm getting as I had a 6800 GT. Probably hang onto everything and upgrade the whole system later on.
it only has to spank the x850xt/6800GS/GT/UltraOriginally posted by: RussianSensation
Yeah but what are the chances it'll be more than a 16 pipeline solution? So you'll pay $300 for a 350mhz 16 pipe card vs. 400mhz 20 pipe PCIe 7800GT for $300?

Is this really wise? For $300 you can get an AGP 7800GS and keep your old motherboard, but for ~$500 you can get a 7800GT PCI-E, an nForce4 SLI motherboard and a socket 939 Athlon 64 3000+. This not only gets you a better video card, but most likley a better performing processor, plus the ability to go SLI or have room to upgrade the processor as well. Needless to say, you'd have to use your exsiting DDR RAM. So, those of you with Rambus are screwed (but that isn't any new info).

If so, greatOriginally posted by: Budarow
I fully expect ATI to deliver a X1800XL (or at least a better performer) in AGP within 1-2 months. The graphics biz is "tit-for-tat".
Yeah, with an AXP3000+ and a gig of ram i'm in the same boat. I'm happy with my system except for my 9800 non pro.Originally posted by: redfoot12
I have a P4 3.4 GHz and 1 GB RAM (about to upgrade to 2) . I'll gladly do a $300 upgrade now and upgrade everything sometime next year when newer tech comes along. This Radeon 9800 Pro has gots to go.
