Nvidia 8600GTS and 1920x1080

We have a Samsung 52" LCD display which has a native res of 1920x1080.

I had a cheap Dell box using on-board graphics and it could run the LCD at 1920x1080 in Windows XP Pro just fine.

So I bought a new Dell with an Intel Core 2 Duo and a Nvidia 8600GTS with Windows Vista Home, and I can't get it to run 1920x1080. There's not even an option in the display settings to even try 1920x1080....the max is 1600x1200.

Am I doing something wrong? Or is it a limitation of Vista home?

dump the dell/MS preinstalled drivers and install drivers from Nvidia's site.

a 8600GT a step below yours can do this:
Max VGA Resolution
2048 x 1536 @ 85Hz, 32-bit color

Max Dual-Link DVI-I Resolution
3840 x 2400 @ 30Hz, 32-bit color

Maximum HDTV Out (Component) Resolution
1920 x 1080 (1080i)

Maximum TV Out (S-Video) Resolution
1024 x 768

I should've mentioned, that I already did that. I downloaded the latest drivers and it still will not show 1920x1080

Complete shot in the dark, but what type of input are you using? DVI?

Can you install RivaTuner and get a look at the monitor's EDID info? This would tell you which resolutions your monitor says it supports over that connection. Sometimes these big-screen TV's will advertise a higher resolution than some of their inputs accept.

EDIT: Oh, I see you had it working before. Maybe try a different driver version, 100.65 or 158.24 (whichever you have not tried before). Both are official WHQL drivers and should be available through nVidia's website. nVidia's been changing their DVI-related code recently.

Have you tried adding 1920x1200 yourself as a custom resolution in Nvidia control panel?

Does your device manager show the monitor as plug & play, or the correct monitor?...

I had same problem, if hide resolutions etc is tick and only play & play monitor, it wont allow further settings. Update the monitor driver using the monitor .inf file.

Edit - sorry, just saw that its a TV, not a monitor.....

Yeah it's a Samsung TV...I tried looking for a driver, but none is available...so it just shows the generic PnP driver in Windows.

I found a thread somewhere about adding custom resolutions to the nvidia .inf file. I added the 1920x1080 but it will still not accept.

I'm using the standard VGA cable that I used with the last computer(which was able to get 1920x1080). It is connected to the TVs PC input and the computer's video card(with adapter since it's only DVI)
