From what I have heard with the High level of demand for the G80's
EVGA wont be making it available for step ups immediately at launch.

I hope those are just rumors and you get your hands on one.
I will cross my fingers for you and others like you.

 Thanks for the back-up.

Fingers crossed here.

Same here, still on a 9800 Pro, but do my gaming on a PS2 and 360.

May just treat myself to a new rig with a spanking new G80

G80 demand will outstrip supply
ndications are that G80s will disappear as they launch and that there will be in tight supply for the first six weeks at least.

If you want one, be sure to order it on the 7th or 8th as soon as they go online, as you might need to wait a while for the second batch.

IF i WANTED one i would not wait.

Well, first off, that's theINQ.

Secondly, I think nVidia has finally got a sense of just how strong demand will be based on how strong the demand was for the Geforce 7800GTX 512MB and the Geforce 7900 series at launch. Plus, factor in no real competition from ATI, and it's going to be equaling one merry christmas for nV.

then YOU wait before buying one

When are these things coming out? I won't be buying this card but once it comes out, I give it 3 months till value line versions come out. I want a new card but I don't want to buy one unless it is a DX10 card.

Oh, I guess Nov 7th according to the inq.

Yep, this would appear to be the case: EVGA forum mods have been suggesting G80 will be considered "limited release" upon launch and quoting Step Up policy (Read: G80 won't be available for step-up for a long, long time. )

IMO, this is complete B.S. (considering I just picked up two GTO's from them with hopes of upgrading), but not surpising on EVGA's part. Step-up is a bit of a sham in this way. I'd be very surprised if it became available before R600 thus running down the 90 days experation for all of us.

If EVGA is going to play it that way, then you're better off just selling the card on eBay. You always have that option.

If that's how big it is then I don't think it'll fit in my case unless I remove my HD cage (which I can't do at the moment).

If you just picked them up, I wouldn't be as worried. However, since some of our step-ups expire right after the release date, you'll understand our need for this information.

You know, EVGA could be feeding us false info in order to stop everyone from overloading the step-up queue.

eVGA's step-up thing is BS. I got hosed on it twice. They design the thing so that you either can't use it, or you don't want to use it.

Which makes sense, as they'd lose money, but it's definitely a bunch of friggin' BS. I still love eVGA's products though.

Looks like Nvidia hiring all those old 3DFX engineers is finally starting to pay off, lol.

I got a serious question, 'cause I do intend to switch to nVidia for that G80 beast.

However my case is a generic, very basic ATX case (or is it ATX 2.0 ? I don't know). I seriously wonder if the card would actually physically fit in my case without having to squeeze all the wires, considering my Disk Drives are on IDE interface with those huge black wires.

I don't feel like buying a whole new case because I bought a new GPU, that'd be a first !

Just looking at the pictures again ... it's just ridiculous ! But the card IS interesting and I am seriously considering getting one :/

If this keeps up, the next generation of video cards are going to be external and need their own power supply.

IT won't, ATI and Nvidia stated they'll be working on making things more efficient after this gen. We're just going through the Pentium 4 stages of the graphics tech.

The G81 variant refresh will most probably be making things more efficent.
E.g size of the PCB (7900GX2 --> 7950GX2)
Lower process = Less power consumption
GDDR4 instead of GDDR3 = lower power consumption
Etc

im waiting for something better than first gen dx10 cards, no point in splurging on something that wont be used for awhile, and unless it shows a damn good improvement from the current gen of video cards, and i mean a damn good one, its pointless to spend over 400 on one.

Personally I will wait for the 2nd variant of the first-generation DX10 cards. Namely G81 and/or R6xx (whatever they will call it).

Because waiting for the actual true 2nd generation, namely G90 / R700 ... I'm not sure if that's going to happen anywhere before Q4 2007, or early 2008. Well, I know I'm going to be surprised at how fast things will change. I know I'm probably wrong, but somewhere inside it tells me that the 2nd variants will last very long until people "need" the 2nd generation.

I dont think these prices will stick, just pre release nonsense I think, but.........

It gets even better, because in Aussieland, the land of kangaroos and koalas, also listed the G80, Geforce 8800 GTX cards. The cheapest of them all is the Nvidia 8800GTS 640MB PCI-E x16 video card, 2x DVI, video out - no ETA yet, only Australian $737.00 or roughly American $565.00.

The second, the Nvidia 8800GTX 768mb PCI-E x16 video card, 2x DVI, video out - no ETA yet costs between $990.00 and $999.00 Australian - some $760 in American dollar. The most expensive one is the Asus Nvidia 8800GTX 768mb PCI-E x16 video card, 2x DVI, video out - no ETA yet listed for $1160 Australian, or around an astounding $892 in American dollar.

From the inqwell, complete with web links to selling sites from down under.
Arent Aussie HW prices much higher than U.S. - even when converted to dollars??

That's what I thought with the 6800U, but they'll make it more efficent with 80nm and later on 45nm (or is it 60nm?) I guess...
