I'm curious to see how this much of an overclock affects performance. Could you do us a favor and benchmark a fews games at default speeds and then at your crazy high overclocked speeds?

Wondering if I should push mine higher, but if it only adds a couple fps then its probally not worth it. But if it adds say 10-15+ then it would be def worth it.

[EDIT]Thought I should add that im currently at 725/1810/1950

Its weird that your video card tops out at 50c when mine tops out at 52c on an air cooler. and 49c in atitool.

did you test your overclock in ati tool? if so how long?

It still says "No errors for xx:xx:xx" at the bottom.

After running 709/1782/1950 for 16 minutes, I got an error message:

"Delta of 1 in 22 pixels. No errors for 16---"

It didn't reset the timer. It just kept going on.

I'm a little bit disappointed with performance. My 3D Mark 06 score is pretty low, only 95xx, which is only around 500 more than I got with my 8800GTS @ 612/2000. I know the SM2/CPU tests are held back by my CPU (X2 3600+ @ 2.8GHz), however, SM3 didn't go up too much either. The first SM3 test, with the flying craft, went up by 30%, however the second one (last test, with snow) stayed the same. This is with 8800GT @ 709/1728/1950.

Also, I still can't play Crysis @ High Settings/1680x1050 under DX9. Framerates are in the high 20s alot of times, however they still dip below 20 often.

your cpu is majorly holding you back, with mine, from a 8800GTS 640MB 620/2000 I gained 2500 points.

Your 8800GT is clocked around 10% faster than mine, but yeah, the old Athlon X2 is starting to show its age (in 3D Mark at least, nowhere else does CPU really matter.)

the difference between 700 and 780 core for me was only 500 points

so......... 14000 vs 14500

vs 12000 flat for my 8800GTS

Has anybody tried the Palit one, the one which comes with a different cooling solution and 3 phase power something and costs the same as the reference cooler ones? What do you think? it could be a good way to save some money?

Likely it's more memory banwidth limited than anything else once you reach 700MHz+ core. That's why I'm not sure that the new 8800GTS is going to do so well, if the rumors are true and its 256-bit with only 1940MHz memory.

ok ive play half life two ep.2, counter strike source, shadowrun, bioshock and guild wars. all played fine but guild wars drivers stop responding after 20sec in the game and idea's why that would happen when the other game work just fine? Thanks

@extelleron, iirc crytek said that cpu and ram would have a very large effect on gameplay, too. Ask around for somebody with a c2d at 3.0+ and 16x10 native res and see what they get on all high in dx9, I'll bet that it's closer to 30+ fps.

I just installed my BFG 8800gt today. So far it seems Oblivion and FEAR-stable at 700/1675/1000, using the stock cooler and 50% fan speed. Will try 3dmock and Crysis later.

Everyone who installed an aftermarket cooler, did your max stable clocks go up noticeably? I have a HR-03 I could install, but I don't want to bother if it's not worth the hassle. So far the fan noise is not bothering me.

I don't know, it could be that, but there hasn't be any definite, clear reviews of Crysis performance related to CPU/GPU. I would have thought that for such a big game, Anandtech or another site would do a performance guide, but they haven't.

739 core/1782 shader and 1950 memory. Running crysis like....mediocre at 1280x1024 no AA 8xAF everything on high except object detail, textures, water and particle effects which are very high. My average fps through the whole game would probably be something like 29 fps. I wouldn't say it was smooth lol, but sometimes I was too caught up on the effects to bother with the occasional drop to 17 fps. At one point I actually dropped to 13 fps, I think that was at some kind of swamp-ish area.

Based on the gpu benchmark and some attempts at playing the very first part of the game, I estimated a 13% higher fps because of my overclock. The overclock gained me 5% extra average fps in the CS:source benchmark.

Oh and, regarding 3dmark06, I think I gained 900 points total from the overclock. From 11200 to 12100. I do not know why the gain was so minimal. Some might say my cpu might be a bottleneck. Well, it's an E4300 overclocked to 2,9ghz. The cpu certainly isn't a bottleneck in games, but I wouldn't know about 3dmark06. It seems that some people get higher SM 2.0 and 3.0 scores with greater cpu's?

No. I installed the ThermalRight V2 and was still stuck at 700/1750/2000. So I knew then it was a core voltage problem. I did the BIOS flash and got to 740/1850/2000. If you can't budge higher than700/1750 or so the BIOS flash will get you another 10%. Some cards already have the higher voltage stock (EVGA, BFG OC2) and those cards do 740+/1800+. That's when you know the BIOS mod won't help. The mod only ups the voltage .05v, everything else is stock. Technically it might void the warranty but you can't really tell it's been done. My warranty was voided long ago though. LOL

What is the most important to overclock for the 8800GT? What part gives you the most marked increase in performance.

Realistically, my question is aimed more at the DX10 side of gaming. I am hoping to maximise my DX10 gaming power, especially in beautiful games such as Hellgate London.

1080i on a 42" HDTV in DX10 is a strain on any card, even DX9 can be very testing but damn, it looks so fine.

core and shader seem most important up to about 720 or so after that memory seems to mater more.

I was able to get my eVGA 8800GT Superclocked up to 712/2080. I had the fan on at 100%, not sure if it was the core or the memory that caused it to crash at 720/2100...
If I want to test my 3dMark06, should I get the free download, or get the upgrade at $19.95 ?
