Nvidia 980 ti / 980 price reductions due to Fury competition

Oh I don't know, it has really surprised me at the number of fast adopting 980ti's ; tri-crossfire/sli and titan rigs on these forums alone. Although i feel many members of these forums represent the top end of tech fiddling so it is hard to tell how representative it is.

I don't know about others, but I might be a bit out of the norm in my buying habits.

Traditionally I was a $200-$300 card kind of guy. Then, with my last system, once I had slapped a GTX 275 in around 2010 I have been straight coasting until this year. A lot has changed for me since then and with the upcoming VR headsets I built a totally new machine to replace my seven year old one and spec'd it out with whatever I could reasonably justify (and spent way more than I ever have for a system, but don't regret any of it).

That was the change for me. I will probably be a halo card consumer from here on out.

I'm more or less the same way. I've been milking a 480 for going on 4 years (I think I bought it right after the 500's came out) and it's doing well, but I think it is well past time to upgrade obviously. For some reason, I am coming around to the idea of dropping the money for a 980ti...even though at this point it is way overkill for me, but I figure it will last for some time as I doubt I go 4k anytime soon, but VR does interest me.

Seems like the only silicon lottery 980 owners worry about is how far above 1425mhz it will go. At that point, everything I said stands true, especially in the face of Fiji's paltry overclocks. But you're right, there will likely be 1 or 2 games that will run better at 1080p 120/144hz on an OC'd Fury vs. an OC'd 980. At 1440p we're probably looking at a split, but then again it's going to cost Fury owners an extra $75 to enjoy that split. Of course not everyone overclocks but we're enthusiasts here so that's what something we recommend doing, right?

Weird times when Nvidia has the better perf/$ ratio among the higher dollar cards before and (even more so) after overclocking.

Yeaa for half a year. Come back here in ayear and 980 is tanking. Its all lottery but if prior history is anything to go for its upside down from now soon. All my nv cards in the house have stagnated.
Even look at maxwell sli. 9 measly months into life and nv is preparing for pascal reviews or what is happening??
Go buy a 980 - be my guest. No more nv here unless its forced into a laptop. Man its getting older faster than yourself
