One of the sad realities of a new card is there needs to be a reason to buy it. Right now the gaming landscape is a pile of crap. I can't think of more than a handful of games even worth playing let alone any that need more GPU power. My only hope for buying a 2080ti is the next Battlefield game. It better look sick and be taxing. Then I'll be happy and excited about a shiny new ti.
Hopefully 4K@120Hz and 8K are right around the corner.

OK so my vega 64 reference is kind of too noisy and uses just a bit to much power to placed in a open closet, so was wondering. What the status of next gen nv stuff? - i am ready to fork out 600 for some midrange stuff as i need midrange power usage - is all still a big unknown?

Honestly, if you already have a 1080 or 1080 Ti, is there really any reason to upgrade? The only people that need more power would be adamant 4K 60Hz gamers. Otherwise high-end Pascal chews through most everything at 1080p/1440p, with the availability of high refresh panels. Unless games in general make a giant leap that requires up'd perf, the best benefit for gamers on release of next gen NV would be the influx of used Pascal.

If you use VR and demanding software like military sims it does help. But nothing of great improvement I think until there is a new VR headset with increased lense resolution.

Plenty reason; @ 1440p I cannot max out every setting including in some older games. I could do with the extra grunt!

Want to bet?

Like Nvidia is going to tell its plans to anyone. Fake news.
I hold you to this.
Just sold my rx64 to a gamer because its to hot where i have my pc.
So now i need a 2080 for my 4k gaming instead of this crappy 1050 i use as a backup.
And if i have to wait until august i will explode in 720.

Remember that original MSRP pricing was $379/$449 for the 1070 and $599/$699 for 1080. Figure the floor for launch price is at least $50 more than the FE pricing.

Maybe nVidia can get creative with the yield to come up with a model which could be mining-only. Defective ROPs disabled, etc.

750 or 800 is no probs. And yeaa it would be nice if they could segment the miners out somehow.
Isnt it always blowers launching first?
If its within 200w i think i will prefer that.

Digitimes article. Nvidia wary of possible cryptocurrency demand drop

Since profitability from graphics cards has been weakening, Nvidia and AMD have both been decelerating the developments of their new GPU architectures and prolonging their existing GPU platforms' lifecycle, the sources said, adding Nvidia's next-generation GPU architecture Turing will not enter the mass production until the third quarter.

These whole Turing speculation just doesn't add up. No way Nv will start production of their 12nm next gen in Q3, launch in Q4, when 7nm is around the corner. Have they maybe totally cancelled their 12nm gpu line because amd is no competition? And we get a mixture of old infos (12nm in Q1,Q2) and new infos with 7nm at the end of the year?

The article is extremely vague and mentions it briefly whilst referring to the ever cryptic 'sources':

I'm not taking this seriously until we have all the facts in straight from Nvidia. Sorry for being cautious.

If Turing is Crypto ASIC it makes sense why it will not start production till Q3 2018.

Besides: GT1xx? Im not buying this naming scheme...

Too calm for products now. Next possible date would be around computex. But at least cryptos are going down, availability and price should be much better at the end of the month.

I can't imagine them doing that - 7nm is hardly likely to be really mature enough for high volume/big chips for 'domestic' GPUs right off the bat so it'd be quite a big delay. Quite plausible for a big 7nm compute chip to get mentioned soon mind you.

So in light of the ray tracing announcement, will we see the upcoming gaming cards with tensor cores after all...

I'd doubt it. NV wants to segment their markets and selling tensor cores at gaming card prices means that people will try avoiding their professional offerings where they have much higher margins.

Not at first because we get the mid rangers, remember? Mid range cards barely faster than a 1080ti that cost about the same money as one. No special cores on those. The new Ti card, when it comes about a year from now, will probably have the special cores and cost about as much as a Titan used to cost, only $1,000. The new Titan brand is now a $1,500-$3,000 product.

Before I can properly reply, what models do you regard as mid range?

Well, Titan V's architecture, tells you what we will see on consumer GPUs .

And I am happy. Volta was first Nvidia Architecture, that I genuinely liked, from engineering perspective(pure hardware level). Clock it properly, and we will still get nice boost to performance.

I am hoping for 1024 Core GPU with proper clocks, that can give GTX 1060 performance(6 GB).
