If the 50 series doesn't lose ~5% FPS with transformer vs CNN like the 40 series, maybe the 5080 is at least slightly better.
With transformer quality is improved enough to drop down a level in DLSS res which will give you more FPS than 5%

Soooo... say Blackwell in N3P -
1) clock up by how much - 15-20% from current regressed clock?
2) double registers, fix cache bandwidth - how much uplift?
3) 15-20% more cores
4) GDDR7 32-36 Gbits

Should be +50% on 5090 easy?

Not frame gen, just super resolution. Blackwell might handle new and improved model without a performance hit unlike Ada and Ampere. Hopefully we end up with at least a "4080 Ti" rather than just a 4080 Tie.

DF did a quick overhead test for Transformer models.

On Ray Reconstruction. 40 Series actually took a smaller hit than 50 series:
95% performance for 40, vs 93% for 50. 40 series is 2% better.

On Scaling only. 40 Series actually took a negligibly larger hit than 50 series
95.3% performance for 40, vs 96% for 50. 50 series is 0.7% better.

Bottom line, nothing in it. 50 Series really only has more fake frames over 40 series.

4% only. I got 1440p because a lot people use DLSSQ(1440p res) from 4k

Might depend on the game choices. Wukong's one example that is no faster on the 5080 compared to the 4080S. Even at 4K it's only 1 fps faster. Fillrate limited perhaps?

The silver lining is the memory does help in 4K.
But the BOM hit is less than the perf bump, NV has created a pretty bad generation when GMs are concerned, they will need to sell a lotta 5090s.

My heart leaps like gazelle and my excitement knows no bounds...for 8% of the time. No wait, with multi frames that is now 48% of the time. Six times the goodness! Six pence the richer in frames!

I know these designs are settled on way in advance, but the memory bandwidth increase on the 5090 and 5080 seems to make very little difference if any. I'm not complaining, as its one of the few 'real' improvements, and I'm sure it will help in AI, and over time, but I'm a bit puzzled why they bothered, given how they cheaped out with everything else.

From the HUB review comments:

"3070 - 65% of the 3090 performance, 50% of the 3090 specs, 33% of the 3090 price - $500 5080 - 65% of the 5090 performance, 50% of the 5090 specs, 50% of the 5090 price - $1000 This is $670 (33% of the 5090 price) 5070 inside a $1k 5080 box and that's why it isn't even faster than the previous xx90. This is a daytime robbery. This is a scam."

Well, reviews are in and shock no one.
Basically an in place replacement for the out of stock 4080 Super at the same price, so we're just waiting on the same generation from 22-26.

Next up, same thing for the 5070 Ti vs 4070 Ti Super and then the clown show of the 5070 being slower than the 4070 Super.

50 series is a bit of a disappointment. I expected more.

So 4K mild gains, other resolutions basically nothing. Great release Nvidia.

Now we know why they 'only' charged $1000 instead of $1200 like last time.

I was thinking the same thing. The 4K gains are almost certainly the GDDR7 rather than anything else. So if anything it's almost a regression. What a farce.
