I was thinking the same thing. The 4K gains are almost certainly the GDDR7 rather than anything else.
Well that's not nothing. For people who game at 4K the 5080 isn't a bad lower cost alternative to the 4090. Provided the MSRP doesn't remain fictional.

Gah! This is a terrible time to be in the market for a new GPU. I bought a 57" monitor for work and it's awesome for productivity but my 7800XT is struggling in gaming. All the GPU choices that would make a measurable difference either don't exist in the market or seem like a terrible deal.

An update here. They cheaped out. No vapor chamber and no liquid metal.
Tbh the performance figures have put me off. I'm not big on frame gen or upscaling and I don't do any non gaming compute stuff so there's not a lot to sell it to me on!
It's a lovely looking card though!

Actually impressive how scuffed this uArch is.
man this is lowkey impressive.
So fmax is straight up lower across the range.
But hey, it will all pay off in 6 years time, trust.
bruh
DF review didn't compare the 5080 to any AMD GPU even a single time. Instead, they compared it to 3080 and 2080 about a dozen times. That's one way to sell this turd.
shill foundry doing shill foundry things again. what a classic.
How many mentions of DLSS4 in the review?

Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve (Studio): 19.1 cannot launch with an RTX 50-series GPU. Hangs on the “Optimizing Neural Engine” process.
Adobe Premiere Pro: Support for 4:2:2 decoding not available (tested up to Premiere Pro 25.1)
Topaz Video AI: Built-in benchmark does not work on Topaz Video AI 6.0
V-Ray 6.0: Low performance in GPU CUDA mode
OctaneBench 2020: No support for RTX 50-series
CineBench 2024: No support for RTX 50-series for the GPU test. May possibly be part of a larger issue with Redshift GPU rendering.

Interesting will be on RDNA4 aviable 4:2:2 because seeing, people complaining about 4:2:2

TPU made the mistake of comparing to the 7900XTX.
Since it made the 7900XTX look good, they shat on it in the conclusion to painfully justify their "highly recommended because from nvidia" award.
"yada yada not from nvidia yada yada would never put money on amd crap"

Not that many surprisingly. Even they admitted that it has limited use, i.e on Alan Wake 2 with 4x MFG 5080 was hitting 100ms latency at 140 FPS.
That's what you get when pure raster is only 37 FPS at 4K with RT.

1000ms/s divided by 37FPS = 27ms/frame, then times 4 because 3 inserted frames + 1 rendered frame is a theoretical 108ms latency.

Is this another case where the raster improvement is higher than the raytracing improvement? 11.1% over 4080S for RT at 4K. But 13.6% over 4080S at 4K for everything combined.
Hasn't Nvidia heard? Raster is dead.

Why did they include an $800 5080 option in their perf/$ chart? This makes no sense. . .

Nvidia says they are adjusting clock speed at much higher rate, it will fluctuate even within a frame now.
