They will sell one card and it will go OOS?
I bought a laptop today at Micro Center and picked it up when they opened at just after 10am. Surprisingly they still had lots of 5070 Ti stock, but for $980. They did have two of the ASUS Prime versions at $750 left though. I actually picked up the last of those two cards. Figured I can sell my 4070 Ti Super and be left with little to no out of pocket cost. With my 5% MC discount, I was out the door for $790.

Edit - They also had one ASUS Astral 5090. A guy who presumably "owns ten 4090s" put it down because he needed to ask his wife about the purchase. I had the opportunity to buy it, asked the price, and said forget that noise when it scanned at $2,750! Tax here is right around 10%, so it would be around $3,025 out the door. Even with my 5% off, it would be $2,875.

Thats actually pretty cheap... lol... i have seen them at 3200 in California.
And they are still Sold Out at that price.

Makes me wonder if the scalpers actually think they can flip them for more and make a profit like how they were hording onto the 9800X3D, only i can't think of many who can or would even pay over 3000 dollars for a GPU.

Im a big spender and i would not pay that much for a GPU.
That comes out more then my ThreadRipper 7960X + ASUS TRX50 + 196GB of Gskill NEO ram, which is absolute BONKERS seeing how my HEDT platform was expensive as hell already.

I really need a 5090, to finish my build, but i want to keep it as close to 1999 as possible, and would even consider a founders edition at this point, but its all paper launch.

I guess Nvidia wants to gut AMD so they are holding stock until the RX 9000 series launches. This is why we need a serious competitor for Nvidia like how AMD become one and toppled Intel when there prices started getting really stupid after the 7000 series Core Launch.

I was tempted to head to MC today too but... I just don't need it/can't justify that atm. I think flipping your 4070 Ti Super while the getting is good is a solid plan.
Cheapest used 4070 Ti Super card locally is listed for $875 on FB Marketplace, so I think I can get $800 pretty easy. Either that or give my son a surprise early wedding gift. He's getting married later this year and is on his college's e-sports team; on scholarship for it even. Would be a nice upgrade from his 3060 Ti.

The 4070 Ti Super is a really nice card, that's a huge upgrade that could hold for years at this point. A generous but useful him gift, I like it What does his spouse get?

It would be silly to part with it and then want something like it back later.

My 6800 is staying with me for now for just this reason, if I sold it getting something equal back at a "fair" price is going to be too darn difficult.

She gets a 3060 Ti in the computer he's piecing together for her to use on a poor college kid's wages.

Ya know, I went back and looked. MSRP of the 6700K was $339. 7700K $350. 8700K $359.

I was more talking about the HEDT platform with the 7900 series... and how they had to drop the price after threadripper 1950X came out on the 9000 HEDT series.

The intel 7000 series is where AMD started coming out with Ryzens.

Even the intel 5960X didn't break $1000 until Intel came out with 7980XE with a price of $1999.
This is what i mean about stupid prices.
Now AMD is repeating what intel did with the TR 7000 series.

Anyhow don't want to drift off topic more then this...

See the main thing about Blackwell Gaming is that they didn't increase the transistor count (Also doesn't help they didn't even bother with N4P, but...)

How excited are they going to be to increase the count on non-02 dies, when the $/transistor is going to be way worse on any future node?

So… buy something now and enjoy it… for a long time unless they revolutionize the uarch or actually dedicate more transistor budget to gaming specific functions?

There is something to be said about how well a $1000 can run games, they are really powerful in their own right. It is a psuedo luxury item.

I see them going for $4000 or more on ebay and FB marketplace. One Amazon seller has the Asus Astral in stock for $7350. You may as well get a prebuilt with one at that point. I'm playing RPGs right now that are all CPU limited and the 4090 is more than enough. The only thing is I wanted to sell the 4090 while it still held its value.

Looks like 4090 value will hold really well until when/if the make a 24GB 5080S and even then I don’t think it will matter unless it’s “$1k” and actually available at that price. Launch 4090 at MSRP was a super solid investment imo.

I know someone who bought a 4090 at launch for 1600$ and sold it on eBay the other day for 1800$ after using for 2 years.

He managed to get a 5090 at launch for 2700$ (with tax).

Prices right now are stupid. Used 4070 Super FE selling for $850+ on eBay.
I paid $600 for one only a few months ago. I should sell it but I cannot in good conscience ever sell a GPU I have used for more than I paid for it.

I just checked the retail prices for the cheapest 4070 Super. It jumped from $949 from 2 weeks ago to $1149AUD.

This is all because there's no real money in the gaming market compared to AI. That's it. They aren't wasting wafers on gaming dies, nor should they. Would you? Hell no, lol. Gamers lose their mind over a few hundred bucks here and there. AI people fill warehouses with the most outrageously expensive crap just so people can watch a computer draw some stupid image from words.
