This screams to me like another Silicon Valley startup hoping to do just enough to get bought out rather than a company thinking they can really be successful with their product.

Now that you mention it, I forgot that GB207 has less SMs than AD107 does. 5050 is probably 18 or 16.

3060 8 GB might be a better comparison with the 5050.

Context is really important here.

There is one major catch: Zeus can only beat the RTX 5090 GPU in path tracing and FP64 compute workloads because it does not support traditional rendering techniques.

For $150 or less I'd be excited about a 5050 for Plex transcoding.

GB207 is 20SMs. If it's a cutdown die, it would need some serious clock advantage to match 4060. I think Nvidia will employ the RTX 3050 8GB strategy and have it be 80-90% of 4060 (previous xx60) performance.

If they could make it so that it can be paired with a cheap Radeon and the pathtracing part could be offloaded to it, bye bye RTX.

And thus, I'm not excited yet, but I was excited recently to find an open box 3050 6GB for $140.

I'm shocked at how badly NVidia has screwed up this release.

Every generation since Pascal has been full of complaints (often over the top) about how terrible the Performance gains, or Performance/$ gains are, but this generation really earns those complaints, and then some. Gains aren't just small, they don't exist. Practically there really aren't any gains to speak off (except for the 5090).

Then there are the outright QA failures with missing ROPs all over the place.

Then there is the terrible supply.

This is on a mature process, so what they heck is going on?

It really seems like they would have been better off rebranding Ada with a small price cut. Blackwell just seems like a cluster of problems, with no real bright spots.

JHH can't hear you over the sound of all the data center sales pouring in. I would not be at all surprised if they pulled developers and engineers off of the consumer products to focus on DC customers.
