No...

8GB... almost any game now can eat though that.
AAA title... forget it... your pushing into territory which even 12GB cards show a disadvantage over the 16GB.

Either we need a new gaming engine which is vastly superior made by skynet AI, which is extremely super efficient, or the reintroduction of HBM that wont melt in gamers hands on video cards like the original Fury64 did to handle games today, because things are getting out of control even in programing.
A 5050 isn't going to be running AAA titles at high settings anyway. We can say all cards should be 12GB minimum until we're blue in the face, but the chances of getting that is almost zilch. Given the choice between no cards at all in the sub $250 market or an 8GB 5050 / 9500XT at 199, I'd rather have the choice.

$429 5060 Ti 16 GB
$349 5060 Ti 8 GB
$299 5060
$229 5050

nvidia lost mid range sector so they will have to flood the low/mid sector with cheap GPUs same as they did with 4060

They are all Eth miners, and got it stuck in the head that its enough to last the chain.
Bit rude given I'm neither a miner nor a bot, but alas

We're talking about a xx50 class cards. Basically entry point GPU. 8GB is more than fine and users who buy these cards aren’t expecting to play games at 1440p/4K High settings. 1080p Medium or Low is the target.

8GB VRAM is the minimum recommendation for 1080p60 Low on 2025 AAA titles like AC Shadows or Doom Dark Ages. So a 8GB 5050, if priced well, is more than fine.

And, again, for budget gaming laptops this is a clear upgrade over 4050, 3050 and 2050.

It boggles my mind how some people think 8GB GPUs shouldn't exist at all. The logical conclusion is new games are not accessible to anyone who can't drop at least $250 on a graphics card.

And before someone misquotes me as saying "8GB should be enough..." that is not my point at all. I fully agree that new GPUs should be launching with more memory than they are. Any 8GB graphics card launched at $300+ is outrageous. But there ought to be some price point where 8GB is acceptable, otherwise you're essentially saying "screw poor people".

Yea, $200 or below.

I wish they'd bring back a passively cooled X030 series. I want this for Plex transcoding and the lowest performing (and thus cheapest) option is nice to have. This is why I had a GT 1030 for PhysX testing awhile back.

Personally, my cutoff for acceptable 8GB graphics cards launched in 2025 is $250 (I wouldn't call such a card good, just okay). $200 is a reasonable take imo.

$250 is pushing it as it is on N4. Arguably the price point should no longer exist (or be OEM only) but I guess it's going to happen.

I wish they'd bring back a passively cooled X030 series.

Maybe there will be a passive card that's a cut down GB207, but it wouldn't be for gaming. Quadro more likely.

ahhh i apologize if it the statement seemed like i was singling you out.
I thought it was addressing the ghosts of the thread, and not you directly.

I realized now your SN is also ghost, so it can be inferred that way.

GTX580 vs RTX5080
Who will win this epic fight?

Back with my 8800GT, I purposefully did NOT install the PhysX driver, figuring it was gimmick that would cost me peformance.

I don't think I have any of the affected games. I have Metro Last Light, but it's the "Redux" version which is 64 bit.

But this is just another thing that makes Ada look better than Blackwell. NVidia really aimed both barrels at it's feet this time.
