The 5090 looks very impressive performance-wise but 600W?? If true, that means the uber-oced versions could be 700-750W. 🤯
That is a prime indicator of silicon slowdown. Improvements can't be had through silicon by itself so more power is it. Happening for a while, but, 2 to 3 more cycles?

4090 was also rumored to be 600W as supposedly that's what Nvidia was telling suppliers and/or AIBs to spec the cooler for, but it turned out to be 450W at stock settings. 5090 power usage rumor might be a similar story.

Here's hoping. The 4090 ended up pulling less power than the 3090 or 3090 Ti and beat each by ~64% and ~45% respectively (according to TPU at 4k). Although Ada benefited a lot moving from Samsung 8nm to 5nm TSMC so not sure if Blackwell can actually stick to 450W if performance really jumps 60%. Most of the efficiency gains would have to come from architecture improvements vs process.

Here is one thing that I want to finally see in Blackwell (and all other future consumer GPUs) - dedicated hardware decompressor!

Microsoft's DirectStorage can do it now using GPU itself but that interferes with game work GPU does, just like in consoles a very cheap tiny dedicated hardware is needed to finally get PCs to parity with consoles.

SoC used in Switch 2 has got it...

I have updated upcoming RTX5000 information with Raichu's performance estimate in the table above... will be updating if any leaks appear...

My analysis of rasterization performance (EXCLUDING RT and other features)

RTX 5070 VS 8800XT
  • Based on my calculation, if N48 set the boost clock at 2.9GHz, 8800XT should perform 10% faster than outgoing 7800XT. It should perform slightly faster than 7900GRE and RTX4070S as well. But no, 8800XT won't perform faster than 7900XT / 4080, period. It's just another hype train created by AMD marketing team.
  • However, NV certainly will response with RTX-5070. Some people thought with the reduction of CUDA cores, RTX-5070 won't perform much faster than RTX4070S. Oh man, people should look into the increment of TDP. And GDDR7 is much more power efficient than GDDR6/6X: the reduction of voltage should help reducing few watts on the PCB. Yet, NV going to bump the TDP to 250W. Why?
  • Cause NV going to increase boost clock so much higher~~ If my assumption and calculation are correct, we should be expecting ~3.4 GHz clock speed in the Blackwell series: about 1GHz higher than Ada Lovelace.
  • The secret recipe: TSMC's 4NP process. Of course, if NV manage to increase IPC of the Blackwell then clock speed could be lower, we shall hear more in the coming days.
  • It is going to be 7800XT VS 4070 all over again between AMD and NV. But this round NV will utilize 12GB GDDR7 and depending on the final clock speed, NV should win over few percentages in rasterization performance.

RTX 5080 VS RTX4090
  • Even with much higher clock speed and GDDR7, I don't think RTX-5080 will outperform RTX-4090. That's why Raichu estimate is way optimistic.
  • Of course, there is another version with 24GB and faster GDDR7 in the works that might be faster than RTX-4090.

Pricing

NV should set the Blackwell series similar to current pricing, from $599, $799 and $999. RTX-5090 is an outliner, NV could set price higher than RTX-4090.

Will RTX 50 Blackwell have Coherent BVH Processing with Scene Hierarchy Generator in Hardware?
Level 0 – Legacy Solutions
Level 1 – Software on Traditional GPUs
Level 2 – Ray/Box and Ray/Tri Testers in Hardware
Level 3 – Bounding Volume Hierarchy (BVH) Processing in Hardware
Level 4 – BVH Processing with Coherency Sorting in Hardware
Level 5 – Coherent BVH Processing with Scene Hierarchy Generator in Hardware

I think the 5070 is more likely to be closer to the 4070 Ti Super.

Please no. If this price rumor turns out to be true (big if considering the source), this is getting beyond ridiculous.

But the prices seem legit. GDDR7 presumably costs decently more.

Could just be Jensen priming the press with ridiculous pricing only to cut 10-20% off these numbers and all of a sudden everyone is cool with it. Then again, there's MSRP... and there's street pricing. Street pricing for the 5090 will likely be in the >$2,000 range.

It's not going to be cheaper than the 40 series original MSRP. This is nVidia we are talking about.

Didn't say it was going to be cheaper, just not as insane as that shown in MLID's slide.

If it does launch at those prices, I hope consumers flat out reject buying them.

I don't know what they will do in RTX 50, but they'd better finally make ray tracing properly useable with minimum of 60 fps and 100 fps without resorting to rendering at 1/4 of native resolution, and no bloody fake frames.

If it does launch at those prices, I hope consumers flat out reject buying them.

5090 will sell out.

on your opinion trust/not trust
These are the things I'm saying now because they're true and I'm right and they're different than what I said before which was also true and right because things were changed but for now they're true and right but if it turns out that they are different when they launch it's not because I'm not right, it's because I AM right but they changed things because I'm so right and they couldn't handle it.

You sure you're not MLID's script writer?
