I could see AIB boards being that much. Like even with the 4080 Super, to me it seemed like very little product was sold at $999 and there were boards at $1199 or more.

Reading about the specs, it seems Blackwell is very derivative architecture wise. And that's after the Ada was as well, but at least Ada increased the cache very significantly. Now we're just speculating about new software features that previous gens might or might not support.

I wonder what the next actually significant architecture innovations might be if we're not getting blindsided by some huge surprise in January.

Need to be serious breakthrough on ray tracing perf - it will be gen 4 with Blackwell, so finally I hope it will be playable at least on 5090 with 100 fps+ at 4k and without upscaling from 1080p or even 720p.

We also badly need dedicated hardware decompressor (very cheap to add) on GPU to avoid using main cores for that work - need parity with consoles in that, current DirectStorage is rubbish because of it, Microsoft needs to port to Windows what they got on Xbox to have true parity and ease of porting.

Has anyone else thought that Nvidia is just fine with higer priced GPU's at it will force people to "subscribition" GPU's aka Geforce Now?

Maybe placeholder prices
Youtubers like him are worse than MLID, and that says something, at least he has got decency to make up his own sources, where as this one just makes video "content" out of other sources, even RGT is better. 🤮

Maybe in 10 years it will be a thing, needs not just proper low latency fiber but local data centers rendering games to lower latency to local rendering farm to some small values (<5-7 ms).

Or just pull a Stadia and claim "negative latency". Why not? People already gladfully accept the use of upscaling as mandatory.

I think it was defensive move against others trying to pull it off, Nvidia much better off selling expensive devices - it's more money for them than time sharing one GPU among 100 people, they just did not want anybody else trying to pull it off and cut into their hardware sales.

Perhaps the cost of future GPUs will be such that it will only be feasible to "rent" them by the hour just like an airplane, a boat or ...

Should that happen gaming will be dead to me.

With stronger RT hardware available comes higher game requirements with more demanding usage.
The problem is that devs at best will target PS5 level of ray tracing, this is going to drag things down for a very very long time, can't see PS6 being super good at it either unless we see some real breakthroughs in this tech in the next couple of years, who knows - maybe this will be it in 5000 series, would be nice, but I can't see it working (well) without big caches and high bandwidth RAM.

IMHO RT perf needs to go up 10x to maybe finally be proper useable, that's 3 more proper gens at best, but how much would a GPU cost on A16+1 process with HBM5e? If you have to ask...

<$2K for a 5090 and I will buy it. Day 1.

$2.5K and I will require an autographed oven mitt from Jensen himself to soothe the burn.

$8K and I will find a different hobby.
25% or so bigger die, 8 GB more VRAM, DDR7 instead of DDR6, moar TDP so chungus cooler. No competition. Compare to 4090 at 1600$ (retailing for more).

Do you really think it's going to cost $2k? My guess is closer to 2.5k.

One interesting question is whether Nvidia's new faster cadence with Rubin due 2026 (or even late 2025) will also apply to consumer level stuff, in other words, what are the chances of getting 6090 on N3P in 2026? It seems to me rather unlikely sadly...

moar TDP so chungus cooler

On FEs the cooler was already supposedly good for 600W.

They may as well just have the top "gaming" card be the 5080 at $1600 and call the "5090" Titan something for $3000. I hope I didn't just give Jensen Huang any ideas.

It's an old adage in the restaurant industry that if someone buys a bottle of your most expensive wine, you need to add a fancier and more expensive wine to your menu.

4090 sold shockingly well. Certainly more than what people expected for its price point. The 5090 is NV following the market to find out how much they can ask.

That is a good comparison.
