DLSS 4 debuts Multi Frame Generation to boost frame rates by using AI to generate up to three frames per rendered frame.
Lol AMD users already have it, but without AI

what most is impressive in Blackwell. It's small PCB

The AI I want in my computer is the one that when a appllication locks up the AI will tell me what happened and fix it so it doesn't happen again.

As for all of the other Cortana-like AI... I'll pass.

The AI I want filters AI and AI-like content online and in real life entirely automatically.
That'd be neat.

So wait. Does DLSS4 interpolate 3 frames between real frames, or does it extrapolate forward 3 frames?

But seriously one thing I'm wondering is if with all of this AI boosting frame rates will there be weaknesses in the hardware outside of gaming? Will these new GPU's be stronger in my video editor? How will they do in straight up AI apps like Topaz Photo/Video AI? How about raw image processing that just wants a lot of GPU compute.

So much talk and so little real information. They should let me read through this script, I could shorten it up to about 12 minutes of pure hard hitting facts and figures. Then another 18 minutes of Q&A. 30 minutes. Done.

They are explaing this stuff at a terrible level. Not low enough to be really interesting and not high enough to quick provide a broad overview. They are in a middle ground of gobbly-beloved patriot. As an educator this is not a good presentation.

I believe it is predictive, not Intra. The next "real" frame would have to be computed based on user input right? That can't be predicted and there is no frame "ahead" in the future. It's not like GOP compression, it's purely predictive I'm thinking.

I remember that someone on this forum said when nvidia anounced the dlss3 framegen that the next generation they will just keep putting more interpolated frames to claim big performance increases versus the previous generation. Spot on.

Here's what I think they are doing. You provide some sort of input to the game. Until you enter another input the game can "run ahead" without you, all frame can be predicted. But as soon as you make an input then that frame must be computed. If you are creating constant input, in super fast computer time there is still a lot of time between your inputs to predict frame and not need to compute them all. It's pretty darn smart actually.

If it's like FG v1 (which it probably will be in this sense), it will work really well for when you are standing around or moving relatively slowly, but once you start moving quickly or make a sudden move in a different direction, it becomes really messy. It will be interesting to see how quickly the GPU can drop the predicted frames and switch to rendered frames in these situations.

I dont see why the predictive frames cant use your input, especially for simple things like camera translation or rotation

It would be jarring in an FPS if the frame rate dropped by 75% every instant you pulled the trigger, but i am very curious to see how it handles sudden screen changes like muzzle flash, or opening a door, or scrolling text or a million other things
