NV is trying to milk the insane bubble as much they can, jensen calls the shots. NV was always very aggressive. in some ways this goes 100% contrary to the wholesome taiwanese uncle persona of jensen PR lol
decision making process for next gens is very interesting. lots of big decisions around fab cost/performance and release schedules. on GPUs nvidia <-> amd has a very different cadence/relationship than on CPUs intel <-> amd, what I mean:
CPUs:
amd way ahead but still conservative: #1 chips with cost effective fab/packaging too
intel way behind, desperate, struggles to keep up, #2 chips with very expensive fab, power hungry, hot etc
GPUs:
nvidia was always aggressive, now literally #1 GDP company global but instead of going conservative, they exploit everything even more to the max to be #1 perf: extremely aggressive fab/packaging, massive dies heaviest cards possible with ridiculous requirements 600watts lol. of course they run into trouble
amd behind but still conservative, chooses to even skip top-end rdna4, says "nvidia u r too crazy"
NV is now too big it can absord desktop blackwell failure, also blackwell did very well on data centers as it produced colossal products and demand is insane, can't stop making chips
