Yep, the physics of heat transfer doesn't change by fiat. Surface area, coolant transfer rate, delta temp, energy/power. Fiddle with the parameters but those are the essentials.I really doubt the 2 slot rumor. All copper does is get the heat to the cooling surface quicker/easier, you still have to have area for a given coolant flow.2-slot... maybe if the whole things is made of copper. Which is VERY unlikely.

New rumor suggests that the 5090 will be cut down to 448-bit memory. That would mean you would get 28 GB. And with 28 gb GDDR7, that would give it a little more than 50% higher bandwidth.
Still expect it to be over 2 grand for it.

Pro cards always have VRAM on both sides right of PCB right? So thos cards get 64GB (theoretically 96GB but I don't see it happening) for the rtx A6000 Blackwell.I was skeptical that was going to happen on the 5090, mainly because they should be able to use up the full dies on ProViz/AI.
Meaningfully more VRAM is only going to happen with 3 GB and up chips.

Lots to be skeptical of with this round of rumors, that 2 slot cooler, and the biggest chip really being two smaller chips logically, but fabbed together as one big chip and then cut later if they need two smaller ones. That's completely backwards. They would want to do that the other way around. Fab the two chips individually and connect them later.

I think it's more to save design time and to gradually move to a MCM-ready design.
It's a play for protecting their server and workstation cards to nerf the ability to use the consumer cards for AI/ML and other GPU compute loads. Memory capacity and bandwidth are the two biggest issues with LLM and similar AI workloads. It is the same reason it is low this generation, as well as last generation.In my opinion, limiting VRAM on 5090 sounds like a play for yields (or balancing power consumption) more than anything
The problem is the price. You could get more NVram, dual slot like pro cards, at a premium. For me USD 2k is the most I'm willing to payAfter paying a scalper inflated prices for the 4090FE, I told myself I was going to wait to upgrade. However, if the dual slot rumor and performance rumors are true AND the card isn’t any louder than the 4090FE, I might upgrade.
Unfortunately, AMD won’t be a consideration for me until they can compete on the high end.
The 4090FE is an amazing card IMO. The best GPU I have owned.
