Nvidia card for active shutter 3d gaming

e6600
Intel DG45ID Motherboard
4gb memory
Pioneer? Azure-beam drive
Some sort of platterific hard drive

It displays 3d movies just fine with my TV, but I want to play Borderlands and Deadspace and Solitaire in 3d as well. So naturally, I need an Nvidia video card to make this happen. I was thinking a GTX 460 would be a good, inexpensive match for this PC. But since all gaming would have to be at 1920x1080, I want to make sure I have a powerful enough GPU. I'm thinking I might go with the forthcoming GTX 570 if it's under $300...

Anyone currently using 3d that can comment on performance requirements?

Take the framerate quoted in reviews or by users and then halve it. 3D is literally rendering the image twice for both eyes so the performance hit is pretty massive. See my latest thread here for my thoughts on 3D + 580. So far I have only tried two '3D vision ready' titles in my collection and they have been stellar (Batman, Civ5).

Performance is going to vary based on games and settings, best thing to do is look up any benches for the games you play and *0.5 and ask yourself if you can live with that framerate given the settings used. If you are going to be using a 460 expect no AA and perhaps lowering the res/ details in a few more recent titles. I'd wait and see how a 570 plays out- what price is launches at and how the 470's/80's prices drop accordingly.
