Specifically, I was thinking of the time I was hittin' the Buddha with some people while waiting to get tool tickets, but if those are your types, then so be it. :awe:
You implied that it's "shit" for the price, and it very much isn't.
It's a better value than some crappy $300 Atom based netbook with 2GB of RAM that tries to run Win 7, that's for sure. Have you actually tried to use a netbook? I had one and sent it back in less than a week, trying to run a full desktop OS on it was a slow and painful experience.
iPads and the new crop of Android tablets are highly portable media consumption devices. Aside from high end games, which netbooks can't run either, I can do anything on this iPad that I can do on my desktop. The difference is, I'm typing this from my hammock on the back porch, while listening to Pandora over my BT headphones.
Now, excuse me while I go back to playing Infinity Blade.
I've had a netbook for a while and there are a ton of things it could do that an iPad can't
stream Flash videos
Microsoft Office
Microsoft Visual Studio
*insert any of the hundreds of other real programs you can't get on a iPad
connect to a projector without any adapters
use usb storage
built in SD card reader
Play HD videos
play any media file without converting it
You have to remember Atom isn't the only choice for netbooks these days. AMD's new APU's offer vastly superior cpu and gpu performance that blows away all of the current tablets
Excuse me while I go back to playing a real game on my PC.
Ugh... typing is the one thing I can't stand doing on my iPad (2). I used to use it a bit in the morning for browsing webpages and such, but the problem I'd run into is that I'd browse the AT forums and want to make a reply. Even a reply as short as this one would take maybe 2-3x as long as on a PC. So, I begrudgingly get up and go over to my PC instead.

Lately, I just cut out the iPad all together, and I just get up and go over to my PC to begin with (it's only in the next room over). That's kind of why I was seriously considering getting an ASUS Transformer... the dock would be rather nice as it solves trying to hold the device while typing (on the screen or a Bluetooth keyboard).

And we're all playing real games on our PCs, except we actually make use out of our iPads productively and entertainingly, while your Netbook is completely useless and inferior to a real Ultraportable.
Huh??? How can someone not be productive on a Netbook? It has a real keyboard and you can type faster than on any tablet and you can still surf the web fine on it and respond to emails and other things. Sure I'll never own a Netbook but to say you can't be productive on it is retarded.
It can email and surf the web. That's about it.
An 11.6" or 13" Macbook Air would actually be a productive portable.
For 3x+ the price they better be. You can still be productive on a Netbook, not as productive as a real laptop but you can still do most things that people would need to do.
No, any real work (or even games) outside word processing + surfing the web needs processing power + bigger and better screens.
Netbooks are going to be die off because they are simply irrelevant as an auxilliary device when Tablets perform the role in an infinitely superior form factor.
This is why Laptops aren't affected by Tablet sales because Laptops are made to do real work while the go and often replace desktops - or do double duty as desktop and mobile. Neither netbooks nor Tablets can replace these functions.

WTF? Completely useless. Get a real laptop with a IPS screen and hardware that isn't from 2008.
Don't lie. You're one of these lightsaber carrying morons.

how is it using a laptop/netbook on a plane when the person in front reclines their seat all the way back?
works just fine actually unless you have one of those massive gaming laptops
and just because i like adding fuel to this, out of those 50 million sold i bet less then 10% use that crap you listed
i use my laptop/netbook while lining on the couch - close enough to bed and i have used it in bed works fine
screen rotation is a non issue
i don't know a single person who uses skype, i couldn't care less about it
i have a scanner on my printer and legs to walk me to it
it's funny, the whole argument in this thread stems around the fact that essentially tablets are useless devices for anything other than some goofy repetitive games and facebook. There really isn't any productivity that comes out of them. They aren't serious replacements for laptops.
Their only real use seems to be the fact that they are more portable than a laptop but at the same time do so much less. They are essentially a toy for browsing the web. I suppose the facebook generation loves them, but i could personally give a toss about facebook.
The root of the whole tablet issue is simple in my opinion. Android and the Ipad both have squat for apps that are actually useful. There's tons of belch, fart and whatever other apps. Tons of stupid insanely dull games like angry birds. what is there to do beyond that? 99% of the android market is crap.
