yet 50 million ipads will be sold this year
can you use a netbook while lying down in bed?
does the screen rotate when you rotate it 90 degrees?
can you use a netbook as a scanner?
does it have 2 cameras for skype video calls?
how is it at skype calls while running after kids?
how is it using a laptop/netbook on a plane when the person in front reclines their seat all the way back?
it's funny, the whole argument in this thread stems around the fact that essentially tablets are useless devices for anything other than some goofy repetitive games and facebook. There really isn't any productivity that comes out of them. They aren't serious replacements for laptops.
Their only real use seems to be the fact that they are more portable than a laptop but at the same time do so much less. They are essentially a toy for browsing the web. I suppose the facebook generation loves them, but i could personally give a toss about facebook.
This paragraph is full of opinion and mostly looks at the surface of what's available on Android and iOS. Are most of the apps available crap? Yeah. But then most of the apps on the PC and Mac are crap as well. Most of the games on all of the consoles are crap too if we want to get down to it. However, you make it sound like there are almost no apps to boost productivity and that's simply not true. There is a wealth of helpful apps on the iPhone and I'm sure for most of the apps that I use on iOS there is an Android equivalent. The root of the whole tablet issue is simple in my opinion. Android and the Ipad both have squat for apps that are actually useful. There's tons of belch, fart and whatever other apps. Tons of stupid insanely dull games like angry birds. what is there to do beyond that? 99% of the android market is crap.
learn to type with 1 hand? That's what I'm doing.
Get any case that turns it into type setting

this post 99% opinion 1% fact
definitely full of opinion, it is a forum after all. Most apps on the pc are crap? I dunno, i can list 5-10 apps right off the top of my head i need use or want. I can't do the same with android. I have ONE app i must have on my phone, checkbook. it's all i use to track my finances. Nothing else on there i care about. The gadget person that i am i struggle as i want a tablet but i keep asking myself. What the heck am i going to use it for? I have yet to find an answer to that question. There's just no apps that do anything i want on android, there's no games with any depth to them to play.
I have yet to find anything that has any use to me on the android market in any way shape or form. Android tablets to me are a complete and total gadget with some wow factor but no real use. i suspect to alot of people it's the same.
I have no clue about ipads. I can't stand apple or their products.
Can you deposit a check to your chase bank account with your laptop? Cuz there's a fucking app for that on the iPad.
people still write checks?
people still write checks?
people still write checks?
Well, that's basically my point. You don't see any use for the available utilities and productivity apps but there are plenty of them. I listed some examples which is by no means anywhere near complete. I'm sure that there are some out there who find an iPad invaluable as an addition to their arsenal of gadgets. Just as there are many like you who struggle to see a use for the iPad or other tablet. But just because you find no use for the available apps doesn't mean that there aren't a lot of valuable productivity apps that many find helpful, even invaluable. Different people, different needs.
not really arguing that i guess. My frustration stems more from the fact that you can't do all these things on a tablet. As you or was it someone else said they are mostly media consumption devices which i totally don't get. Tablets just seem so incredibly limited in what they can do. I'm sure they are awesome for all the facebook zombies, but i don't use facebook.
Just wish i could find a use for a tablet as they are cool little devices.
there is the ram issue. Mac's come with 4GB or more. ipad is 512MB even though the OS has less overhead. and supposedly there is no swap file like in normal ^nix OS's
Stock Playbook OS takes about 350-400MB of the 1GB ram that it has. iPad 2 OS takes about 200MB of the 512MB that it has. Even with 512MB, the iPad is not a slouch.
my ipad 2 opens some large emails faster than outlook, but my core i5 laptop is generally faster at rendering most web pages
