nVidia's little "Are You Ready" hype for the NV30 has gone a little further, they've now gotten a rather amusing video available for download.
Linky

I love the one line near the start of the video "One renegade company stands alone... "
So... nVidia is now a "renegade" company?
In my mind a renegade company would be would that is a new up and coming corporation that is not an established vendor and is looking towards revolutionizing graphics architecture.
Perhaps someone like BitBoys Oy, or to a lesser degree PowerVR.
nVidia is like the complete anti-thesis of a renegade.
Classic architecture design from an industry leading company, that is already well accepted and established.

If anything nVidia is fighting to maintain the status quo, not fighting to de-throne the leaders as one would expect a "renegade to be doing.

That aside it's an amusing little spoof though... pretty good video

What about the rumour of a tile based rendering system? and the supposed lack of 256bit memory but with equivalent performance.

So what's the big deal? After NV30 is released, ATI will start the hype on its "next big thing". Then it will be nVidia's turn again, and so on, and so on...

Tile based rendering is far from being anything new or entirely unheard of, certainly unusual and it will be interesting indeed if it happens but they wouldnt exactly be renegades.
As for a 128bit memory controller, but with equal performance to an R9700 with a 256bit memory controller..... why would that make for an entirely new design concept?
Impressive, but not unheard of... nor does it make it an architectural design that's vastly different then what has come before.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying nVidia isnt innovative... or that they don't have a number of very architecturally advanced designs.
A look through some of their published patents shows clearly that they most definitely do.

I'm merely saying their they've always designed around what is for the most part known concepts. Which isnt necessarily a bad thing per-say, as it can be both foolhardy and dangerous to take an entirely new approach to 3D graphics rendering.

Were someone to push a voxel rendering approach into the mianstream, or a clockless design.... that's more along the lines of what I'm referencing as being an atypical design approach.
To do that would be a renegade.
Granted those two ideas arent exactly very realistic, but there are others that may be.

I dunno but they currently have a bunch of former SGI, Matrox, and 3dfx employees. Nvidia poached alot of talented engineers.

They didn't really poach 3dfx people did they? I thought they just bought 3dfx out?

They bought out 3dfx's IP and they nabbed quite a large number of their employees as well.
ATi grabbed a small handful, and BitBoys got a few as well.

nVidia is just chock full of ex-exployees from various other companies.
SGI, 3DLabs, 3dfx, Matrox, SiS, S3, Appian, Quantum3D, Elsa etc etc.
They've got employees from practically everywhere.

They've practically made it a habit to poach top engineers from other corporations.
Such isnt exactly unusual in the industry, but nVidia has definitely made the practice into a virtual art-form.

Not bad, first video was better though
At least nvidia us providing some amusement in their marketing campaign.
I notice they alluded to the old GeForce1 marketing campaign when the girl said "My world will never be the same" near then end of the video.

I know for a fact a lot of 3dfx people moved on to nVidia. One in particular was a lady I was in correspondence with. She's arranged for me to get a deep discount on a Voodoo5 if she could find one (this was in the very last "days of doom"). Then 3dfx disappeared.
I began some correspondence with nVidia and guess who answered my email but the same VERY nice lady.
No discount on nVidia though - they're more stingy that way. (And there was a jolly good reason for the discount, not just being poor.)

I should write her up just to say hello.
