i found this comment on slashdot that sums up their complaints well

I went to this page http://www.nvidia.com/object/7_series_techspecs.ht ml [nvidia.com] for my video card and it says:

Built for Microsoft® Windows Vista(TM)

* Third-generation GPU architecture built for Windows Vista
* Delivers best possible experience when running Windows Vista 3D graphical user interface
* New OS supported by renowned NVIDIA® Unified Driver Architecture (UDA) for maximum stability and reliability
* NVIDIA® PureVideo(TM) technology delivers high-quality VMR pipeline for best-in-class video for Windows Vista

Now, if I purchased this card to run on my new Vista machine, I would be pretty upset when it didn't work right. Wouldn't you?

It's broken just like my nV 40's highly touted (PVP) Programmable Video Processor ...

I say good luck to all their customers...

Well, I can attest to purevideo not working. It can decode via software but it's hardware acceleration is busted in vista.

maybe u could get some money from it!
I don't want money, I just want G80's drivers to match/exceed the awesome quality of G71's XP drivers.

This is ridonkulous.

I guess if you want to complain about buying bleeding edge hardware go ahead. I have a 8800GTX.. and I did pay $650.

The refinements are coming. I'm sure they want to get the work done more than the anti-Nvidia (aka AMD) people want this done. This is just another anti-Nvidia fanboy group orgasm.
If you dont like your $650 "coaster" then sell it. I'll pay coaster price since thats all it is.

Mine works pretty good!

if they make the claim, they should back it up.

It reminds me of that commercial for McDonalds. All you need is a buck and you can buy food. Yeah right. What about tax? But in the commercial they make you think that all you need is just ONE DOLLAR. If I had play cash I would've taken them to court. Assmunks.

No sales tax where I live - so yes, it does only cost a buck.

I would have about $250 from all the driver issues I get. Funny thing is... it's usually a NVIDIA driver that's the culprit.

I have absolutely no sympathy for Nvidia whatever. Their products may be good, but their customer support is... non-existent. I mean literally non-existent. They don't have customer support. Of any kind. Ever. They don't even understand the concept of customer support. If you asked them a question about customer support, they would have no idea what the phrase even means.

Ummm, okaaaayyyy........ Maybe if they sold graphics cards, they would. AFAIK, they do not and only sell GPU cores to AIB partners, and they make the cards and offer warranty's and support for them.

If you're talking about drivers, then I would say they are always working on newer better drivers. Always. So, give an example of how nvidia support is non-existant please. Maybe I'm misunderstanding you.

thanks.

heh what do people honestly expect.

brand new bascially un-tested/un-explored DX10 capability, mixed with a brand new OS and a Brand new API that is nothing like the previous DX8-DX9 jump was. i expect things to not go smoothely at first. early adopters always get the shaft....thats the price you pay for wanting it all now and not later.

Oh please, is waiting a week or two for drivers and not installing vista for that period of time (or just use beta drivers right now) really that painful?

Folks do we have to go through this again

Yes everyone who said that expecting things to go well for the early adopters was foolish, it IS a new driver, hardware and OS.

BUT SINCE THATS TRUE:

Nvidia should never have put on the box:
*New OS supported by renowned NVIDIA® Unified Driver Architecture (UDA) for maximum stability and reliability

Until it was true. End of story.

EVERY company EVEN NVIDIA should be held accountable for it's marketing practices and public statements

Nvidia made a huge mistake by releasing G80 GPU very early- they should have released it now. Now i demand a free GTX card so that i can run in SLI

*honestly*?

here's what i expect from DAAMiT, nvidia or intel ...

*to fulfill their advertising expectations*

http://www.nvidia.com/object/7_series_techspecs.ht

Built for Microsoft® Windows Vista(TM)

* Third-generation GPU architecture built for Windows Vista
* Delivers best possible experience when running Windows Vista 3D graphical user interface
* New OS supported by renowned NVIDIA® Unified Driver Architecture (UDA) for maximum stability and reliability
* NVIDIA® PureVideo(TM) technology delivers high-quality VMR pipeline for best-in-class video for Windows Vista

the above ... is what i *expect*

it's called *truth in advertising*

DON'T *promise* what you *can't deliver* ...

there should be *disclaimers* on their boxes and on their website

which i don't expect that from Creative or MS
[that's 'why' MS has 1,600 lawyers]

Not to me it isn't. I have not had a problem yet where the beta vista driver did not work for me.

It is a marketing scheme. By your logic those Geforce FX5200 that have "Take your games to a whole new level of realism with this card" and stuff like that should be sued.

Give me a break people. There are a million other more important things to argue about than Drivers for a new API and new OS.
