NVidia game codes now difficult to resell?

AMD is doing something similar now too. If you have redeemed game codes before for other cards they now require a copy of an invoice emailed to them before they will supply you with the code

Not sure what you mean there. So you are allowed a certain number of redemptions and then you have to supply an invoice for a video card before they allow you to redeem any more?

Basically yes, I work in a shop as a custom builder and we get the promo codes all the time with parts that we stock longer than the promo applies so I end up giving the codes away or keeping them. Lately I haven't been able to redeem a single one without AMD asking for a copy of the invoice with the email address on the invoice matching the one registered to AMD. It's unfortunate because I never resell these I give them away to friends to keep a good game code going to waste.

I don't know what the contract looks like but I wouldn't be surprised if AMD pays the publisher for redeemed codes and doesn't pay for non-redeemed codes. I can imagine them trying to strike a deal like that in order to save money. If that's the case, there are no games going to waste in that scenario, just codes being redeemed outside of the agreed upon terms (meaning a required video card sale).

Once you get the code you can sell that code though right?

Thats just a proof of purchase to prevent people from scamming codes for cards they don't own... like you were doing.

This isn't even in the same ballpark.

Nvidia is (supposedly) NOT giving any keys for their promos. They want people to use their software, and that software is susposed to be locked to the card in question, and then that is tied to steam/origin/uplay account.

In other words, they don't give you any keys at all.

AMD just requires proof of purchase before giving said key, if key wasn't in the box already.

Two different animals.

^Okay, that sounds a bit better on the AMD front, and worse on the nV front lol

What happens if you change cards? Your redeemed game no longer works?

Hmm, too bad. Pity about the change, I remember I got a free code or two to work without buying a card.

So they don't want to have to pay for a game when they didn't get a required card sale. Isn't the point of the "free" codes to sell cards? Not to have them simply given to people? I'm not sure if you realize it, but you are defrauding AMD. It's like giving away free codes for any software without the required purchase. And it sounds like they are only trying to target the abusers.

Eh, if AMD is paying per code activated then maybe you are technically defrauding them but unless they state that, how do you know? More than likely they pay an agreed amount for x number of codes from the game publisher. Same with Nvidia.

So, anyone want to do a comparison what is faster:
  • Changing a GPU today with registrations for warranty extensions and promo codes or
  • changing a GPU 20 years ago with all the restarts you had to do in Win 95 to get a working system.
I can see why they would do this, doesn't mean I like it.

I'm not surprised. It's been months since Nvidia last did something controversial and detrimental to gamers as a whole. They were overdue.

one less reason to buy an nvidia card. Lots of people are convinced by bundles. Not sure why it matters who uses the code if the card sold. Silly

ULMB will make me get an Nvidia card eventually. IF I can ever stomach the insane monitor price.
Just specced out a 1070 system for my brother for a ULMB monitor. Sometimes, you HAVE to go Nvidia. Why not get some games?
He's never played anything on a system as powerful as a 1070. A free game to enjoy your new high end GPU from the getgo is a bonus. I always redeem the codes.

Edit:
THREE FREE games with my HD7950 GPU was an AMAZING deal. I hope AMD does some of those crazy bundles again. That instantly makes me want to buy.

There are many monitors that feature "Blur reduction" which is the same deal, just not Nvidia only. Also not all GSync monitors have ULMB so be careful when buying. Neither work with *sync active.
