Sales looks good. No wonder since this will be the new king of gaming like the GTX 970 was

So much for that supposed $379 price..and wide availability

Then actually checking the "In Stock"

My math is not the best.... the 970 was 330$ and was a great deal correct?
If the 1070 61% faster as you say. At what price would make it an equal deal to the 330$ 970?
So 330$ + 61% =190$ ?
330$ +190$ (61%) =520$

450$ seems ok to me and 380$ is unbelievable for a 1070, especially with 2x the Vram @ 8gb, lower power usage ,and the added feature set of Pascal.

Your calculations are fine, it's your reasoning which is flawed.
The GTX 670 was a great card when it came out at $400; the 1070 is probably ~3-4 times faster, ergo a reasonable price of the 1070 is $1200. Seems legit?

If Volta's GTX xx70 is released at a price 60% higher than the 1070 (assuming a 60% performance delta) will you still call it "reasonable"?
The GTX 1070 is, at least at the current prices, wildly overpriced.

Current prices = retailers taking advantage of limited stocks for a product in high demand. High demand is result of 1070 being a kick ass card that no one sees as having any competition in near term. Plain and simple.

did you really expect the second fastest card on the planet to be at MSRP and widely avalable on release day.
You have to be trolling.

If they didn't paper launch, yes it would be widely available and at MSRP. As much as some wouldn't like to hear or admit that, that's what the reality is. Nvidia knew what the score would be, which is why they put so much of a premium on the FE cards, which makes the third parties look better when they come in under those prices, even though they're still well above MSRP.

Nvidia might be serving everyone a turd sandwich, but they know how to polish it so that not only will everyone eat it, but will smile while doing so and remark on how delightful it is. Maybe the expected something out of AMD this time around, but unless AMD is being unseemly coy for AMD, the 480 isn't anything that should have pushed Nvidia into such an early launch.

So far I'm seeing $449 for the FE's just like it was announced. They said FE's on June 10th with non FE's to follow. There is still plenty of time for the non FE $379 cards to come out.

Is there a consensus on which AIB version/edition is best? I'm set on getting a 1070, but I do not want a FE.

I'd wait for some reviews to come out. Anything else is just going to be hearsay at this point.

Re pricing, actually the 970 at $329 was Nvidia spoiling the midrange market. 670 = 399, 7950 = $449 (gasp!). So when the 1070 settles down to around $380, its a sweet deal. And it will probably rule the roost until AMD can come out with a small Vega at around that price/performance.

Hmm so true....nice.
Shift goalposts some more I guess. The 1070/1080 are extremely lackluster in comparison to the 970/980. The 980 was one of the worst value buys of recent history and the 1080 still comes in worse somehow.

The gtx 970 was.....
The gtx 970 wasn't the undisputed second fastest card though. Anyways, there are plenty of reasons for lack of 1070's and wide availability of 970's, whether or not you want to claim goalposts being shifted. The 1070 launch is obviously not coming close to keeping up with demand. Hasn't there been a slew of high tech devices that launch with numbers unable to meet demand?

But does it really matter? What difference does it make if Nvidia waited another two weeks to launch? Paper launches with reviews are better than delaying both. Why wouldn't you want to have the information sooner?

Anyways, $450 straight up sucks. People paying these prices have no patience whatsoever.

The biggest problem is that AMD may not have anything near the GTX1070. So for people who want much more performance than a GTX970/390 they have no choice to buy or to wait.

And btw: The GTX1070FE is indisputable the second fastest card on the market. Even in 4K the card is faster than a Fury X.

3rd fastest maybe.. unless you are forgetting about the Radeon Pro Duo.
