I'm debating a Dell 27 inch g sync monitor to go with it, the s27dg or whatever the model is. Looks like i missed another sale on it for $450.

I most likely won't play with most of the settings and a lot of times I turn extra settings off as they usually don't make a difference to me.The 1070 works really well for 1440p but 1440p @ 144Hz would probably require some settings to be lowered in the more demanding games. I don't even think the 1080 has enough horsepower for it.

That makes sense. Do they have a 27 inch model of that monitor you have? I may just consider that instead.It would but personally I'm not a fan of variable refresh rate displays because I prefer to have a constant and consistent refresh rate. So if I'm buying a 144Hz display, I want everything to be running at 144Hz, that way I feel like I'm fully utilizing what the display is capable of.
Now should I go with the MSI 1070 for try my luck waiting for the $399 Gigabyte model?

The MSI Gaming series cards all have really nice custom PCBs and very large heatsinks but all that isn't really necessary, just nice.
My biggest annoyance with this generation of monitors is a dearth of reasonably priced DisplayPort monitors around 23". I prefer to use 3 monitors at once, not one big one. You're basically reduced to adaptor cables right now ....

The supply is pretty good now. Lots of excellent cards available for $440-$460 (EVGA ACX, MSI Gaming, Zotac AMP are probably best). Whether you regard that as overpriced or fair depends on whether you think Jen-Hsun lied when he said this was a $379 card.

But it's a fantastic $450 card. If you need a $300-400 card, well, there's not much to recommend, except maybe a discounted 980 Ti.

It's too bad though because at $380 the 1070 would have been among the top 3 price/perf cards.
Supply is better than before, but I wouldn't call it pretty good. Cards still keep going in and out of stock. And EVGA just had the gall to jack up the price on the card I was looking at by another $10. Generally the situation just pisses me off and I'm tired of waiting to buy, but I guess I'll wait some more.
I just paid $449 for an EVGA SC, so for the next 2 weeks I will drink two $10 bottles of wine a week instead of $25 bottles and skip the once a week restaurant bill. So in my mind I will have netted $80 LOL. Can't wait for an RS analysis of my purchasing habits.
Nice I'd like to order this but I have no idea what is going on with my monitor at best buy. It's been in process for a while now.Can currently get the Gigabyte GTX 1070 Windforce edition from eBay for $399.99. Tax is charged in California I think, and maybe Georgia.
