I've never seen a report of a single model that will oc higher than the FE, and in fact cards with upgraded power and dual PCIe connectors seem to overclock worse due to their higher power use.

If I were you, I'd just pull the trigger on one of these deals. You may be splitting hairs a bit more than necessary in choosing a card.

+1

The custom GTX 1070/1080 cards are a bit of a let down from an overclocking perspective IMO. Same goes for the custom RX 480's. Seems what you're getting is quieter operation and lower temps, with a touch higher power consumption.

I would have no problem buying the DT version myself... In fact, don't temp me.
So the ASUS Strix and the EVGA FTW would be my two picks, simply because they're quiet and they look good. I mean my whole side panel is glass, so looks matter to me  I know... it's shallow.

Is spidf from sound card/mobo to video card still a thing?

I'm so confused about this and Google only brings up articles from 2010.

If I do HDMI audio/video from my video card, does the video card do the audio processing or the motherboard/sound card? If so, I have a sound bar that has its own amp and processing, is there any point to the motherboard/sound card?

No. I believe this was done when HDMI first became mainstream but before video cards had onboard sound processing.

Video card does processing for HDMI audio. But it does not do analog audio, which is what your soundbar uses.

Gotcha. So the soundbar would do the conversion to analog, correct?

Basically motherboard and sound card are completely skipped and my sound card is only useful for my headphones right?

If the soundbar uses a 3.5mm analog input connected to the PC, you'll still need to run an audio cable from it to the motherboard. If on the other hand the soundbar plugs directly into the monitor, it's possible that it will get sound from the HDMI cable indirectly. That would be the case if the monitor had built-in speakers, as it would have to include an internal DAC.

GTX 1070 shoppers on the fence, time to move off of it. Today only, Newegg has the EVGA 1070 FTW (full FTW, not DT) for $440 shipped. Amazon has matched that price.

You really can't do better than this if you want to play a bit of silicon lottery, although my hunch is you won't be getting better overclocks, just a quieter cooler and pretty sweet RGB lighting for the price of lesser cards.

What time does it end? I'm still at work so I'd like to order one while I still have the chance.

August 3rd only, probably through midnight Pacific time.

In other news, Jet.com is about to sell itself to Wal-Mart:

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/04/b...om.html&eventName=Watching-article-click&_r=0

Nor surprising. It had no chance of actually making money the way it was doing business.
I'm going to order as soon as I get home. Stay in office any longer and people will ask me to do more stuff.

I'm not surprised about jet, yet i don't get how they were making money if they basically got stuff from newegg and sold it for pretty much a similar price.

Unless they had some kickbacks from manufacturers or vendors.

If Newegg runs out, don't forget to check Amazon. Very likely its promotion will end a little later, once its bots realize Newegg's has ended.

I have it now as

PC ----HDMI---- Sound Bar ---- HDMI (ARC) ---- TV

OK, so both your PC and your TV feed HDMI audio to your sound bar, is that correct? I didn't realize sound bars had HDMI inputs. If that is the case, then you'll be using video card sound processing, not motherboard sound processing.

In the example above, however, I'm not sure where you're getting video out from the PC. It wouldn't get to the TV via HDMI through the sound bar unless I'm missing something (an AV receiver?)

For example, my HTPC's GTX 1080 is hooked up via HDMI 2.0 to an AV receiver, which receives both GeForce sound and video, processes the sound, and sends the video to my 4K TV.

Yup both feed HDMI to the bar. The bar can push video through to the TV. Basically my setup is like yours but instead of the receiver I have the bar and it acts like an HDMI hub.

Well I have ordered the EVGA 1070 FTW before the coupon and deal ran out. It was a $5 difference between it and the gigabyte g1 1070.

I went with EVGA since I've never had one of their cards before and they seem to have great service and the trade up program if I ever want to do that 6 + months down the road.

EVGA is probably the best reason, outside of the quality of the GPUs themselves, to buy an NVIDIA card. There is no AIB vendor quite like them in the industry.

I did a lot of research on the various brands to see how they fair as well as what typical rma experiences were like and of course problems happen but from what I researched with EVGA, they were painless.

I've had my own rma nightmares with Dell and Motorola as an example and I've concluded that customer service in the US at least has dropped by a lot compared to what it was years ago.

Congrats on the new card! You are going to like it!

With EVGA, I feel you get more for the same (or less) money than Asus, MSI, and Gigabyte. That means support, Step-Up, warranty service. It's all a cut above, and it's basically free. And this gen, their new coolers are actually at least the equal of what Asus and Gigabyte have, and very close to MSI's class-leading cooler.

The step-up program only works up to 90 days after purchase. But if you think you might be taking advantage of it, be sure to register your card within 14 days.

EVGA hasn't let me down yet.

I'll probably use the RGB lights to try and match the backplate colors from my mobo.

Come to think of it gigabyte also has an app for my board to change the lights around the white shrouds but I haven't installed that.

I'm still not used to this monitor. By that I mean I can't get over how big of a screen upgrade it is for me. I'm excited to see what games will look like at this size and resolution.

It's about time I got back to witcher 3 too.

Why are people considering $449 1070s good deals just because it can OC 10mhz faster than the ones that aren't?

Price doesn't dictate quality. $330 for my Asus ROG strix, can't beat that!

You did get an awesome deal. I wasn't able to get the same thing though and I've been waiting for the $399 gigabyte to come back in since my last order was cancelled.

Being worried about jet too kind of put me off too. But had I been home the night of that deal I would have ordered it.

Seems like Jet.com keeps having these deals. Mine has come back up twice since I bought it.

I'd continue to look at Jet.com as an option, especially with no tax!

When they've been hard to get, people will pay more. And when you couldn't get one for less than $499, $449 seemed like a deal. Myself I paid $400 for an EVGA GTX1070SC using some Amazon credit. That was worth it to me.
