That's good news. Glad you're finally all set. It's a sweet card, isn't it? I was playing DOOM the other night and I couldn't even hear the fans spin up. This is at 1440p max settings. So awesome!
Yup I barely hear it. I hear my heat sink fan more than the card. I haven't even tried to stick doom on the ultra preset as I have been mixing settings for ultra and high but I'll give it a shot, fps shouldn't drop much since it's at 100 most of the time.

What kind of boost clocks are you seeing in game? Also, what are your temps while playing Doom? Doom seems to be pushing my 970 pretty hard temp wise, more than most games.

Yeah but the max discount is $30 using TRIPLE15. I know as I just snagged the Strix-OC from Jet.com
Shop10 gave up to $44 off if it's still a valid coupon. Probably isn't by now though. I was always weary of jet.com but it seems those here who ordered from there didn't have any issues.

Let us know if you received an actual OC card, and not the standard card. I've been on the fence about ordering the same card...still can't decide if I need it or not.

EVGA FTW DT $386
ASUS Strix OC $390
MSI Seahawk $455

Would not let me use Shop10 as this was not my first order from Jet.

Your sig shows you use a 1440p monitor at 96Hz. If you play modern games, you will notice a big jump in moving from the 970 to the 1070

I think for the strix from jet they were sending the non OC version. They did have the more expensive model which was actually the OC edition.

Was easy to get a 100mhz over clock on the GPU and 400mhz on ram on my EVGA Ftw model.

I don't game as much right now because i'm studying, so I might try to wait it out a bit longer. The main game I've made some time to play is Overwatch and I'm getting a pretty consistent 96 FPS at Ultra settings @ 1440p. You're right though, it would be a pretty huge upgrade, especially when trying to hit that 96 FPS in triple A games.

I did set up a custom fan curve in precision xoc and now during heaven benchmark my card doesn't go higher than 53 Celsius. Sometimes it will go up as far as 61.

I don't really know if the custom fan curve works all the time. One time I set the curve hit ok on the options screen, then I un clicked the auto fan button in the main interface. I thought this would use the custom fan curve but the card went all the way up to 80C.

Seems like you have to leave the auto fan button on for the custom fan to be used.

Bought a Strix OC, very nice card. Exceedingly large (HAF XM, comes close to one of the HDD cages, and squashed a SATA cable, plus the backplate is fat) but whisper quiet compared to what older GPUs spun up to. Not going to push it further, out of the box it hits around 2GHz boost in game which is more than enough for 1200p. I'll definitely be sticking with Asus GPUs in future, normally go Gigabyte.

What is the max temp on these cards before throttling? I've got one coming tuesday.

They have many throttle points, which makes finding a set clock speed almost impossible. I've found that they begin to throttle at 60C and throttle more as they hit other temperature limits, including 70C and 80C, but there may be others in between.

For actual extended gaming, as opposed to benchmarking, it makes the most sense to keep it between 70C and 75C. A few coolers can stay just under 70C, but most will require a loud fan profile to do that.

strix oc and non-oc are the SAME EXACT card. Anyone stressing over it would be a waste of time.

The non-oc model looks as if its not being sold/restocked anymore as Jet.com wasn't the only one having issues with the non-OC/OC labeling from Asus.

I flashed the OC bios onto my non-OC and it worked fine. I then decided it to OC manually and easily hit 2ghz. Why spend $50 more on a card that cant do anything more for you?

Max temp on my Strix OC is 62 celsius, 12 degrees cooler than the 780 Ti GHz I had and is quiet. There is no loud roar/air inrush I had with previous cards. Boost ingame is 2GHz or just over/under. Upped the power limit, didn't change anything. Do have a stack of fans though, side 200m, top 2 x 200m, plus rear, front and one in front of the HDD cage. Tip top card, very well built too. Anyone know if its 5+1 or 6+1? Reviews vary.

My reference single-slot (with copper cooler, even) VisionTek 4850 512MB GDDR3 card would often hit 90C+ during normal operation. I think that was 55nm tech, though.

So I got a chance to fire it up and run it for a while. Ambient temp in the room is about 76 degrees F. It's one of the hottest days of the year.

Peak boost clock was 1924mhz. Peak temperature was 72C. Max fan RPM was 856RPM.

Clock varied from 1700 to 1900mhz but always seemed to be pushing the high 1800s or 1900 whenever I glanced over in intense moments. Did not seem GPU was throttling. 72C was only for a moment. GPU was mainly 68-70 for the most part. Memory peaked at 4007MHz.

Not bad, if you ask me. I can't hjear the fans at 800mph. Maybe a very faint whir. And not easy to hear over the game itself (and I'm keeping it low. There's babies in this house!)

Sorry it took me a couple days to do this.

Will be interesting to look at temps come winter when my home office is much cooler and kind of chilly actually.
