Is that still $1500?3rd fastest maybe.. unless you are forgetting about the Radeon Pro Duo.
Um, I got my 7950 3GB for $180 more than a year prior to the 970's release.Re pricing, actually the 970 at $329 was Nvidia spoiling the midrange market. 670 = 399, 7950 = $449 (gasp!).
I'm referring to release date prices. You seem to have bought yours after Hawaii release. Any cards sold after being replaced by new gen cards are expected to drop in price. If large inventories, low demand, prices will plummet, thats they way things generally pan out.Um, I got my 7950 3GB for $180 more than a year prior to the 970's release.

I think the 1070 will be a big sales hit. The only difference is how much $50 over the 970 is going to affect it. The 970 was a phenomenal sales hit, the 1070 is doubtful it can match it, yet in all likelihood it should still be a big seller. That's nice if you can get a 1070 for $379.
As expected, most models are ~$419 USD onwards, above the MSRP.
To put things closer to home, here, a GTX 980 is ~$729 AUD. Fury is ~$729 AUD.
Most 1070 models so far are $729 to $799 AUD.
Most 970 & 390 models are $429 to $449 AUD for the last year.
If anyone thinks the 1070 is going to be a sales hit like the 970 was, they will be in for a rude shock. It's simply beyond the affordable range that moves in volume. At $329 on launch, the 970 was only a tiny bit outside the sweetspot of up to $300, lots of gamers can afford a bit more for it. But at $419/$449 USD, it's simply way beyond the sweetspot.
Those waiting for a more volume based GPU from NV has to wait for the 1060Ti or 1060.

And you keep talking as if the $449 is the standard price for everyone 2 months from now. I dont have crystal ball, and neither do you. $379-390 MSRP I think is doable when inventories build up and as competition between various AIBs shape up. I dont think Nvidia set out to manufacture this card in modest volumes. But if you want to continue projecting your POV through your crystal ball, be my guest. Are you still in denial?
$329 vs $419 to $449. You keep spouting this $379 MSRP as if it's the common price.
I think they may hit $379 once the amd cards are out at the end of the month, mid July. They probably won't drop until August or later. And you keep talking as if the $449 is the standard price for everyone 2 months from now. Yes, in this brief slice in time that everyone wants to make a big deal of. Most people have patience and will not pay $449 for these cards. I certainly wont, but probably will when a good AIB card is available at $380-390.Except of course, the 1070 is NOT $50 over the 970, its $120 over the 970 at release (329.99-449.99).. unless you can point to availability of the $379.99 GTX 1070 Unicorn Edition.

Yup this was their plan all along. The FE price is the new MSRP, the MSRP price is just a marketing ploy. The price the cards will eventually reach with some rare cards that could be priced at $379 before then. This is Nvidia.Yes, in this brief slice in time that everyone wants to make a big deal of. No I am not all over the place, you choose to twist it that way. He was speaking of getting a 7950 for $180 near the end of its product cycle, a time when manufacturers typically clear out stocks to make way for a new line. So, which is it ? "Release Date Prices" ($449) or post release prices ($379).. you are all over the place.
Well after a brief look at some 7950 prices, a Gigabyte 7950 owner was boasting of picking up his $250 from Newegg 'after taxes' in 10/2013.7950 was fairly often available for $200-250 about 9 months after release. Might see something similar happen with the 1070.
