I wasn't suggesting that the 980Ti is better than 1070 but I just think all that hassle will only have you a few $ at the end of the say. If you will upgrade to the 1080Ti then its unlikely you would benefit from the better driver support of the 1070.

Not to mention the 1070's value is also likely to drop after the 1080Ti.

What can I say.. I like new gadgets and somehow an oced 980ti at 99% usage is more noisy than two 980tis, so it's more a quality of life side-grade.

ASUS Geforce GTX 1070 Strix Tests

www.pcgameshardware.de/Nvidia-Pascal-Hardware-261713/Tests/Asus-Geforce-GTX-1070-Strix-Test-1198327

Max OCed Strix almost matches stock Geforce GTX 1080.

Geforce GTX 1060 is coming...

Asustek enhances gaming notebook marketing

Asustek Computer, viewing that gaming notebooks have become a main source of consolidated operating profit, has recently strengthened marketing strategies for the second half through adopting Nvidia Pascal-architecture GPUs including GeForce GTX 1080/1070/1060 to hike hardware specifications as well as setting retail prices comparable to those quoted by Micro-Star International (MSI) in the US and Europe and those set by Haier in the China market, according to industry sources.

Sweepr, you should probably change the thread title from "NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1070 Reviews" to "General nvidia thread" or "General Pascal Thread" or something.

GP102 news, lots of GTX 1060 news, 980 ti price drops, general 9xx price drops.

The alternative is creating a new thread for each of this news. That's actually not a bad idea, thanks for the suggestion linkgoron.

Alternative to what? I'm not saying you shouldn't post the news in one thread, I just suggested changing the title of the thread to "general Pascal thread" to better reflect the content of the thread, as this thread is obviously not just about 1070 reviews, as shown by my six links above.

But I liked the idea, the more threads the better, isn't that what you're suggesting? Anyway, as a general discussion thread about Geforce GTX 1070 I can now talk about price-cuts for older cards and when the next step down (Geforce GTX 1060) is coming. Will create a new thread for Pascal GP102 later on.

The 980ti is dropping in price more and more.

I can get a 1070 for the same price I sold a 980ti or less, consumes less power, has 2gb of extra vram, runs cooler and makes no noise compared to an oced 980ti, misc new tech support, better dx12 performance and probably better driver support in the future.
Isn't a max oc 980 ti faster than a max oc 1070? Also new 980ti is going for $370 AR with custom cooler and pcb on newegg. Cheapest 1070 are around $450 with a subpar reference cooler.

Thinking if a custom 980ti would be a good upgrade for me or wait for a custom 1070. I was gonna go with an amd 480 but that isn't enough of an upgrade. But yet I don't know, I keep my cards a long time.

Isn't the trend now that nvidia isn't supporting their hardware for long periods of time anymore? Amd hardware support coupled with a $200 price tag makes the 480 a very good value proposition.

Yea that is true I may just go with that option even though it's not the strongest option. Waiting for Vega is just too long.

Maxwell prices going down after Geforce GTX 1070's launch:

Should be even lower in a few weeks.

Does anyone know if EVGA's step-up program applies to models that are already released when you buy the original card? For example, if I bought an EVGA 970 now, would I be able to use step-up to get a 1070 within 3 months (paying the price difference, obviously)?

Even if 980ti oc is faster in dx11 - in future dx12 games and vr 1070 will probably prove a good deal faster. Besides its less noisy at oc levels. Well worth the 370 vs 450 difference imo. But that surely depens on ones needs.

I dont think the problem is the price or current performance. The problem is the old arch. Kepler and even Maxwell have been doing a little bad over time and how is that going to be different from an arch that is a -fast- facelift?
One can have a laugh about old fermi but its been a solid arch but now its time to change. My bet is pascal with vr and new clean dx12 engines will age far faster than kepler vs gcn. The betting is ofcource when is that gone a happen. Lol. Might take 2 years and then we are at the new gen already. Nv usually cut this right.

It says you have 90 days to start the step up process as long as you register your product.

http://www.evga.com/support/stepup/

Yes, I know, but it also leads with "The EVGA Step-Up program helps you have the peace of mind to purchase your favorite product now, knowing you can upgrade to the latest parts that come out within the first 90 days from your purchase."

Most likely it would work, but I'd need to be absolutely certain, so I'll probably have to contact EVGA anyway.

Well the 1070 is out and they have a list of cards you can step up to on that page. 970 is one of them and so is 1070 and 1080.

When AMD releases a GTX1070 killer at a lower price point. Overnight, expect to have all their cards sell very close to the "MSRP" of $379.

Is it sad that I am more excited about this than I am about the Polaris launch? Cheap 1070's will be the go to recommendation for a lot of users. I want to believe.

If the launch price was $379 I would be trying to buy one now. I may just go with a 8gb 480 since I like to keep my my cards a long time. I've happily kept this 7970ghz over 4 years. I'm bummed that nvidia support doesn't last long anymore for their cards. I don't like upgrading often.
