I got my MSI Gaming 8G GTX 1070 today. Fedex couldn't find my address last week so I had to wait the weekend to pick it up. I am quite impressed so far.
Coming from an R9 290 Tri-X, this card is just as impressive. While not as long, the 1070 is much taller, pushing my case to its limits. It fits quite snugly.
The R9 290 has been rather lackluster in 4k performance on many newer titles. This GTX 1070 fills in quite well. I was only getting 40fps on R6 siege @ 4k with the 290,
but I can maintain 60fps at medium settings with ultra textures on the 1070. This card should be able to do 4k @ low-medium settings on newer titles.
GTA V runs incredibly well, not even needing to turn down settings from very high/high to maintain 60 fps.

ARMA 2 @ 4k is a chore for any GPU. My R9 290 suffered from many frame drops from zooming in.
Now the 1070 has none of those. Rendering ARMA 2 at 8k on the 290 brought FPS down to single digits. The 1070 can do 8k at same settings and maintain over 30 fps!

I couldn't even get 60 fps @ 1080p ultra for Elite Dangerous on my R9 290.
Now my GTX 1070 can do ultra @ 4k with a minimum of 57 fps (on surface of planet; worst case scenario).
Overall, I am very satisfied with performance.

I haven't pushed the card too much so far, but I have made a small OC. Out of the box, the card boosted to 1950 mhz, but crept down to 1898 mhz after 30 minutes. The stock fan profile is pretty funny. The high 60C fan requirement means the GPU will be boosting at its best when the fan is off! Once, the fan turns on, it remains very quiet.
So far, the fan has not gone past 45% @ 68C. Inaudible for me.

I consider 1898 MHz to be the card's real out of the box boost score with the stock fan profile. I upped the core 100 MHz and memory 400 Mhz at stock voltage. Now the card's real base is 2.0 Ghz, and memory is 8.8 GHz.
I found the memory was "stable" past 9 GHz, but the memory scaling turned negative. I believe if I up vcore, I can definitely get better results. At 2 GHz core and 8.8 GHz memory with stock voltage, the stock fan profile remains intact. It still will not go past 68 Celcius @ 45% fan which is inaudible for me.

It feels like the card has plenty of headroom to go with its 126% power limit and up to +100 for core voltage. I will be giving the card a good overclock soon. I have a gigantic backlog of games I've been wanting do play at 4k60, so I may shut off MSI Afterburner for awhile and enjoy.

I agree on the size of the card. I got the MSI Gaming 8x 1070. Barely fit in my MITX.

Nice to running The Division on high at 3440x1440 smooth as silk.

OK, so I'm a bit late here, but I decided to pick up both a 1070 FE and a 1070 ACX, as my GTX 980 Ti is an ACX model.

I've published some preliminary stock and overclocked benchmarks that you all might be interested in, with more to come!

Lines up with my crooked view of the situation too. Nice analysis. The 1070 vs 980ti deathmatch really boils down to price. With top tier 980ti's available for under $400.- shipped it makes them a compelling choice vs a mid grade 1070 at $450ish.

The power efficiency on the 1070's is stellar. Same amount of pixels pushed at half the power draw? Well done team green.

Thanks for the benches termie. In some of the situations where you said the 1070 loses, its minimums are higher. It's a consolation, I guess.

If it weren't for 1070s fantastic efficiency, I'd have no hesitation in recommending cheaper 980 TIs.

Thanks for the results. The 980ti looks decent compared to the 1070 for those that don't care about efficiency. There are a lot of deals on newegg for several 980ti's. The price difference isn't that much though, if I was to get one I'd go for the 1070.

Your GTX1070 oc results are very weak.I dont know but i manage 88FPS in tomb raider dx12 benchmark with same settings and 85Fps in dx11 mode

Just ran it again on a cold system and it hit 80fps at 1440p in dx12, up from the 77fps I got yesterday. The boost starts very high and drops down quickly (from 2050 to 1936MHz). I'm not seeing the 88fps you got, but then again, maybe you have a golden chip.

I've tested two GTX 980 Ti samples (Ref and ACX), and two GTX 1070 samples (FE and ACX). Here are the overclocks I achieved on each:

(1) 980 Ti Ref: +253 over 1200MHz, or 21%
(2) 980 Ti ACX: +200 over 1200MHz, or 17%
(3) 1070 FE: +190 over 1860MHz, or 10%
(4) 1070 ACX: +163 over 1860MHz, or 9%

Whether my GTX 1070s were just duds or a sign of something bigger at play is up to you to decide. I'm not going to go out and buy more samples just to test my theory that the 980 Ti is a better overclocker!

Congrats, that's quite an upgrade. Enjoy your new card.

What drivers do you suggest using? I still got to play around with OC on my 1070 Amp. 9400 is average on memory? Hmm....Lots of room between there and stock 8002.
Latest drivers and yes 9400Mhz is avg.I have seen many people with 1070 on another forum and they all pretty much end at 9400-9600mhz

Got myself a 1070 for $390, now waiting for the shipment.

Wow, congrats; That is quite close to MSRP!

I tried my hand at overclocking.
I am topping out around 2150 MHz core and 9.8 GHz for memory. Artifacting seems to be intermittent at that speed, but it still scales.

For this OC, I made a new fan profile. ZeroRPM is now lowered from 60C to 50C (the card idles at 48C when in game menus). I sacrificed performance for a quiet fan curve. Maximum boost is 2.13-2.15 GHz which is not sustainable. After a 1 hour burn in, minimum clockspeed is 2101 MHz. Quite a small boost, but it is able to sustain 2.1 GHz all day. Maximum temperature remains below 65C @ 58% fan.

For memory, I ended up with 9.6 GHz. I was happy to hit 10 GHz on stress testing, but artifacts do appear. The performance gain from 8 GHz -> 9.6 GHz is the real noticable overclock. I think I would be content with a 1.8 GHz 1070 if it could do 10 GHz on memory without artifacting.

What are the RAM timing differences between 10 GHz GDDR5 and 10 GHz GDDR5X?

Just got my new 1070 up and running (Palit Super Jetstream)

Didn't do any overclocking yet, but things looking pretty nice already:

My old computer had 2x6850, so I was long overdue for an upgrade.

And all of these are press samples, with the MSI and Asus cards called out for having press-specific BIOS "cheat" code.

I think it's important for readers to realize that these are not randomly chosen cards being tested.

Also, it's not clear how TPU established stability. The only game they test is BF3.

Where did you find a 1070 for $390?

I found it on jet.com on 7/12/16 3:30PM PST, was the Asus Strix 1070 on sale for $420.14, minus the -30 promo code first time buyer from jet.com, resulting $390.14 shipped.

Fedex shows I will get the package next Monday and I was hoping to get it this Friday.

That's pretty cool. If they had the gigabyte model that's $399 at newegg on jet.com that would be nice.
