Just installed my GTX1070 FE card into my rig. I decided on the FE (was on a 10% discount at my local shop!) because blowers work well with my FT02 case whereas i've had problems in the past with open air cooled video cards due to heatpipes (even if they were oriented horizontally - also affected my CPU overclock due to heating the area around the CPU). Don't really have the time to experiment etc so FE i go. Would have bought the turbo if it was in stock as that supposedly has a custom PCB + blower cooler combo and being cheaper. But couldn't resist.
Anyway wow! quite a step up from my GTX780. I've been fiddling around with the fan curve and overclock (using heaven/valley as a guide - any want to suggest something else more modern?), some interesting observations were:
-Increasing power target and temp target increased my stock boost clocks.
-Default fan curve is really silent even at maximum 55%. Like if you raise the temp target to 92C, i don't think it will throttle unless the PC is badly ventilated.
-I found that a GPU offset of +175 (is my maximum)/Mem Offset of +400 (not sure, need a benchmark to fully load the memory) with default fan curve, I max out at 83C.
-Using my custom fan curve (27% - 30C // 55% - 70C // 65% max from 80C onwards) , I hit 75C. This is just a touch louder i.e. a little bit more of an air whooshing noise but not really whiney at all.
-Maximum boost clock seems game dependent as in valley i hit 2063MHz (avg of 2033MHz) and in heaven I only hit 2012MHz max (avg of 1950GHz).
Ill post some pictures later. Planning to play doom in the weekend so lets see how it goes. Tbh, there was alot of fear mongering with the cooler being crap and causing throttling. I ain't seeing anything like that. This thing behaves just like the cooler on the 780 but it cools much better due to a less demanding thermal load (250W vs 150W TDP).
