Well I guess I will weigh in. "Meh". It's an awesome chip and will dominated the extremely high end builds when SLI'd I would imagine. However without a very large price drop AND Hopefully a die shrink to get power consumption under control this is simply not a chip most of us will be interested in. Ever
That power consumption is absolutely balls-to-the-wall insane and would cost most of us a very sizable sum of cash to have around in our main systems. That card takes as much power as this entire computer does while playing games.
I looked at the price and was like meh, it will drop. Drivers will get better. But that power consumption is killer for me. Absolutely killer. It's enough to negate most of the work I did putting in CF bulbs. We got our electric bill down from $145 to $30 by managing our use of heat, turning computers off, and replacing bulbs. Literally (close to exact amounts, was like 29 dollars and some cents last month, woohoo).
Still, those with cash (and more power too those that do!) will have a great new chip to SLI up and get insane performance at right now!
And Nvidia i'm sure won't be using this large process forever, there will unavoidably be a die shrink at some point I would imagine.
What I don't get though is that right now, at that price point, it looks like the ONLY people this will appeal to is those who are at the very cutting edge and are going to SLI them.
If you aren't going to SLI them, and are just going to buy one card, why would you pick this one at this price point? Doesn't seem to be any reason?
Good news is, when nehelam rolls around prices will have settled and will make more sense. I imagine that is when the majority of people will be looking to upgrade anyway.
Now, can't wait to see what ATI has in store as well. Please please please not use as much power.
