It is obvious that GTX 280 SLI is faster than the 4870 crossfie, but the ati cards come close in speed but cost half as much. Nvidia seemed to have put its greatest fans in an very awkward position. Am an going to have to sell my SLI motherboard? We will just have to wait to see if the GTX 280 drops to $500. PS: The waterblcok alone for the GTX 280 is $180, what a rip off.
interestingly though, the GTX280 is clocked very low, and receives tremendous speed improvements from overclocking.
I would wait for the 55nm version, what with the 9800GTX+ being ready already, the 55nm GTX280 can't be more then a couple of months.
I did notice a tremendous increase in framerates in Crysis on this GTX280 when I went from
stock 602/1296 to 700/15xx. Hold on a few and I'll post exact numbers.
Ok, here we go:

Now I'll try bumping the memory up a bit and see how it does. Stay tuned.
Kind of makes you wonder why the AT article states 34.3 fps for the GTX280 at these same settings. Non overclocked that is.
Ok, o/c is 700/1500/2400. CPU at stock btw on all tests. Q6600 @ 2.4
