Time for a stickie on the gt200 is getting close. Looks like 512bit, so should be a burner.

I really hope the next top-end offering from NV is not longer than 9.6".

nVidia has a habit of releasing top end flagship GPU, followed by mainstream... then followed again with an ultra version that becomes the new flagship. Now it looks like they're doing kind of the opposite, releasing mainstream first then high end.

For instance: 8800GT 92nm -> 8800GTS 92nm
Also: 9600GT -> 9800GX2 (although this was then followed by 9800GTX)

I had 2x EVGA 7950GTs running in SLI, was already out of breath for UT3 1920x1200, hardly pumping above 40fps. So I thought it was time for an upgrade, and got me a Leadtek 9800GTX. Didn't get 8800GTS 92nm so I can say I 'skipped' a generation

Now looking at GT200 specs, making me think if I should have waited longer... :/

GT200 is 512-bit

Single chip card

We finally managed to confirm a few details about GT200. This is without a doubt a single chip card and as we said before its quite big one.

The second important detail is that the chip supports 512-bit memory and at least on the memory side it is ready to fight RV770XT.

We know that GT200 is a high performance part and it will certainly be faster than RV770XT but we are not sure if it will be faster than R700, a dual chip card. At this time, no one knows the answer to that.

It needs dual slot cooler and it will dissipate quite a lot of heat but it promises great performance.

GT200 is sampled

We know that some VIP customers have seen and tried GT200. We also know that the card is fast and it is definitely faster than Geforce 9800GTX but we are not sure if it can beat Geforce 9800 GX2.

As we've said on many occasions GT200 based card is a single PCB card with a single chip and a big dual slot cooler. It naturally needs two power connectors but this is something that we are getting used to.

GT200 is something that Nvidia is preparing to show under NDA to many journalists in late May at its headquarters and we wouldn?t be surprised if we see it at Computex 08 as it should be ready to launch around that time.

Many have been thinking (including myself up to a point) that NV was holding on to something powerful due to the lack of competition, but my opinion had changed ever since 9800GX2 had been delayed before its debut. Currently my belief is that NV haven't been very successful with G100/GT100/GT200/whatever (thus the frequent code-name changes) and couldn't launch the product when they wanted to.

Those drawings make it look pretty similar to an R600, with a few subtle changes.

I'm 90% sure that I'll be either sticking with my current card for a wile longer or grabbing a 4870 when they come out since they will be out in the pretty near future. But, I really haven't heard anything concrete on when the GT200 will be available for purchase. Rollo, do you have any inside info on when we should expect the GT200 to be available? I'm guessing Nvidia is waiting to see how the 48xx cards do then tweak the GT200 to match/beat the 48xx cards, but that's nothing more then speculation on my part. Also, again nothing more then speculation on my part, but if it is indeed a 512bit memory bus single GPU then this would either be a new architecture all together or a pretty heavily modified G80/G92 architecture, right?

sorry to rain on your parade, but 9800gtx is the same card as 8800gts 512, just with slightly higher clocks and a much louder fan.

Well at least we confirmed that the GT200 doesn't seem nearly ready for the market yet with that picture.

Sorry, all GT200 info is NDA at this point- I risked much to post the picture of mine.

I hope AMD doesn't get any trade secrets off it, like how they're using AMD 486s for the shaders! If they find out, the lawsuits will begin!

;-)

Seriously, that info is NDA so I can't really discuss anything GT200. Sorry.

It still needs varnish, and a fuse for the AMD 486........

Can you accidentally let slip an indirect hint?

i dont think nrollo is dumb enough to risk his free hardware supply just to slip us a little hint.
What I want to know is... when is the NDA going to lift? Can someone under the NDA disclose the date at which the NDA lifts?
