RE: 1080 throttling. Recent reviews show that this is not the case, really. They OC just great. And the custom cooled cards are breaking through 2ghz with ease on air. So threadcrappers can crap themselves.

I've been checking the overclock.net owners thread. IMHO that is the thread to go to for any major overclocking efforts. It seems 2ghz is doable. Getting much higher than that not so much.

I meant 1080Ti will be the new hot pan to fry our eggs on, not 1080. 1080Ti or whatever it's gonna be called will be top of the line GPU, just like 480 was (I'm talking 500-600mm2 die size).

Inside a case it throttles to base clock after 10 minutes. Tests are available at Tomshardware and Computerbase. 1080 Founders Edition when throttles, is barely faster than aftermarket 980Ti OC and much slower than Titan X 1500MHz 1440p as in pcgamershardware.com test. So you pay extra 100$ for FE that can't hold any boost clock, when custom models are comming next month.

You have come back to the thread to threadcrap more when told to stop.

How's he threadcrapping if he's pointing out a possibly legitimate issue? If the avg speed of gtx 1080 is not what's advertised, that's something that's worthy of pointing out.

NVIDIA is a well run company that's managed to successfully carve out and dominate the niche of high performance graphics products for gaming, HPC, and workstation. I only wish I had not sold my shares in this company at less than half of what they are currently trading at
U could be saying the same thing 2 years from now if their stock reaches $68. if u believe in them long term, get in now for atleast 40-50% uptake in 2 years.

looks like AMD has decided to go the other way, cheap cards with lots of power/$. Can't blame them if they feel they can't compete, probably got used to that after being smacked so hard by Intel for 9 years.
Well they have to win market share first, and this strategy can definitely achieve that.

Really?

That's threadcrapping.

Well they have to win market share first, and this strategy can definitely achieve that.

The problem with their strategy is that chips can't be overhauled overnight to improve performance whereas prices can be dynamically adjusted. If AMD starts to carve out noticeable market share from Nvidia, then Nvidia will drop prices. And with the 316mm2 GP104's much, much higher perf/mm2 vs. a 230mm2 RX 480 at predicted 390x speeds, Nvidia can beat AMD in perf/$ and still have better margins.

It's a win all around for consumers if this happens, but it destroy's AMD's strategy. Also, if GP106 die size comes in at high estimate of 200mm2, then it'll like be 60% the computing power of GP104 and will go toe-to-toe with the 230mm2 rx 480. If it comes in at the low estimate of 170mm2, then it'll only be 10-15% slower and will be priced accordingly.

This is not the AMD subforum. It is the NVidia subforum.

Want to discuss AMD? Make your own thread in the AMD subforum.

Not here. Any further talk will result in infractions and possibly VC&G removal for a period of time.

It's true. I've always been and AMD fan, but not at the expense of performance. I made the jump to intel on the processing front and now I'm making the jump to nvidia on the GPU front. You can't argue with the benchmarks. I honestly didn't expect pascal to be this good though.

Jen-Hsun Huang is like Steve Jobs, an innovator and genius. Nvidia is the only serious choice for premium graphics hardware.

Just snagged a Zotac GTX 1080 FE. I had my EK GTX 1080 waterblock and fittings delivered today. Hopefully next week I receive the GTX 1080 from Newegg. I will move my GTX 980 TI SC with an EK waterblock to my 4790k machine and "retire" my 2 R9 290s in CF. The new GTX 1080 will move to the 5960x rig. I'll keep you posted.

Congrats with your new gear and welcome to the 1080 club

Thank you. It should ship on Monday and I expect it later in the week. By the time I install the EK full block and switch out my video cards, drain systems, run leak test etc., it will be into the next week to report on it.

BTW. since my ultimate goal was to go single high-end gpu in each of my systems below, I opted to move the GTX 1080 to my 5960x rig since it is hooked up to my Dell U3415W 3440 x 1440 ultrawide and the 4790k rig couples with the BenQ 2560 x1440 monitor. Should be fun to compare fps and performance overall on the rigs.
