Good god if they deliver a big Kepler and keep the price reasonable I will be a first-day adopter.

Guess I should purchase that EVGA extended warranty in case this is not just the 670/660 and I something worth stepping up to faster than a 680. Probably just the 690 though.

The hype train for the 680 has barely ended and now they're looking to stir people up into a froth again?

fans all over the place will start dropping dead from exhaustion at this rate.

Hmm this is interesting. I feel like it has to be the 670. But maybe they will surprise us with a 690?

That's what Green Gatorade G2 is for!! To replace all those electrolytes lost during fanboying.

Haha not sure if appropriate but this reminds me of a scene from American Dad where Patrict Stewart's character says to Stan: "Do you have any gatorade? I need to replenish the electrolytes I left inside your daughter."

haha. Sorry.

I litterally just today sat down and planned my next purchase.

a Raven 03 and a 7850 for ocmadness value.
And just settle - to be ready for summers games.

....and then nvidia pulls a lame stunt showing absolutely nothing.
And now i'm scared like a little kiddy platipus it'll be a super priced gtx 670 that rapes AND oc's.

Thanks nvidia... thanks.

Fret not, one of nVidia's main business tactics is to have the fastest single gpu on the market at all times. If there's one thing you can count on its that anything you buy from amd will be matched or beaten within the first 12 months it's released.

You can probably safely say that just about any computer part will be upstaged within a year of it's release.

I'm assuming this is the cut down GK104. It's too early for GK106. 7950 was ~a month after the 7970, so timing is about right for the 670ti or whatever they want to call the cut down GK104.

If that's what it is, it's sure to best the 7950 by a nice margin. They'll be sure to set stock clocks as high as needed to ensure that's the case. Since the 7950 is so sandbagged at low clocks, it shouldn't be difficult to ensure nVidia will best it with their 670 / cut down GK104 card.

I don't think it's the GK106, but for giggles I looked at potential value of a GK106----

Leaks have this at 1/2 to 3/4 of a GK104. Some parts 1/2 of the GK104 (shaders) and others (ROP / bandwidth) at 3/4 of a GK104. Say actual performance is halfway in-between 1/2 and 3/4... 63%

If clocked at 1 GHz like the 680, and performing at 63% of a 680, it would end up at ~equal to slightly below a 7850 in games that the 680 did worst in compared to a 7970 and better than a 7850 in games that the 680 had wide margin of victory vs. 7970... in other words, reasonably competitive with a 7850 at stock clocks.

Given both brands seem to be able to hit roughly the same clocks on OCs, I'm guessing the 7850 will win out when OCs are taken into account, since it's stock clocks are 860 vs. here I'm putting GK106 at ~1000. So I'm looking seriously at a 7850, beccause I don't see GK106 competing on performance (though it may be significantly cheaper.) That and the fact I'm going to build an IVB system in May and I don't think the GK106 will be out by then.

I think the 79xx series cards have shown to be significantly less efficient in terms of shaders per FPS than the 77xx and 78xx cards. I think nVidia is reasonably efficient with the 680 and will be similar on GK106, and this is the basis of my actually considering a purchase after 6+ months of waiting.

it would be one of the best coverups in the history of this industry if this is big Kepler, although that would be what I want the most, as I already have a GTX680 and want to avoid dual GPU as much as possible

my guess is its one of 3 things:

1. mobile Kepler, as this hype is coinciding right with advent of Ivy's launch which, if anything, is going to excel most in the mobile sector.

2. the GTX690, ie the dual GK104, if only because I think this is too much hype for a mobile product

3. the GTX660/670, if only because the GTX690 will be too niche to be hyped this much. With the right price/performance, this could very well be nVidia's next "8800GT" and very good news for a much larger niche of gamers

I'd toss my hat behind the GTX 690. It would be a big win in my book after the lack of Dual GF100 and the GTX 590 and it's volting issues (let alone I'd argue there is still no clear definitive winner vs HD 6990.)

If the GTX 690 comes out and just destroys, it would be something worTH celebrating for team green.

That, or they just signed a deal with Valve and will be the GPU partner for the Steam Box haha.

This was one of the first early leaks on Kepler and we all thought it was BS because of the shader counts.

Turned out to be almost spot on. I don't think GK106 is going to be too impressive if it matches this. 50% of GTX 680.

I guess 690, or a cut down GK104. With the thermals/tdp on 680, they could put 680sli on a stick this time out, unlike in the past where they've had to cut the halo chip down. Still made sure to have a step-upon my evga cards though, just in case it is GK110

But it would make sense to lay on the hype for the mid-range card , it's the big seller.

I might be TOTALLY off, but the picture does not indicate a graphics card.

In fact, it looks like a shot from a monitor or maybe an entire "Nvidia PC" or even a Nvidia game console. Look closer. A graphics card doesn't have an embossed logo like that.

Do not get your hopes up.

There is reasonable doubt out there that the 680 was originally designed as a 680. If they were going for the "next 8800GT", they would have priced this lower. They are extracting value just like AMD.

Based on leaked specs, I do not think the GK106 will not dominate the 7850, though nVidia could certainly choose to price it much lower. I don't think it will have the same margin vs. the 7850 that 680 has vs. the 7970, but if it did, then it would still not be comparable to the margin of victory the 8800GT had at the time. Any "next 8800GT" talk is just sensationalism. It can potentially have a favorable price, but it won't have the margin of victory an 8800GT had unless they price the cut down GK104 below $300, and I find that pretty unlikely.

If nVidia wanted a "next 8800GT", then they would have priced the GTX680 much lower. Not going to happen with the outlook that 28nm will continue to be supply constrained for a while.

Wow, that did turn out to be fairly close on the GK104's specs. Core clocks, shader count, memory bus were are basically correct. Memory was able to clock a little bit higher. Indeed, if GK106 literally is half of GK104, then it's going to be only slightly faster than a gtx560ti and it will get eaten alive in benchmarks vs. pitcairn.
