Its close.

You know its getting close when you see stuff like this leaking.

Kinda makes me wonder....
A lot of people seem to think the 390/380x about to launch any time now. I am not so sure. Shipping logs are not the kind of leaks u get when we're close, leaks like these are

Not sure where you got that from. Most people on our forum are of the view that 300 series isn't launching until spring/summer 2015. There have been 0 indications that 300 series is about to launch any time and not one recent leak on our forums pointed to that.

GM200 OTOH showed up in NV's compute research papers 6 months ago.
http://videocardz.com/51195/nvidia-maxwell-gm200-pascal-gp100-confirmed-research-paper

GM200 specs were leaked even before GPU-Z screenshot last month. 96 ROPs, 3072 CUDA cores, 384-bit bus, 256 TMUs -- all that has been circulated for months.

Looks to be 384bit.

550mm2 die size?

Compare to GM204.

Looks bigger than 561mm2 GK110. Maybe the first 580-600mm2 die?!

3 DPs and HDMI 2.0

Titan launched Feb 2013, and it's going to be a 2-year-anniversary soon, fitting to launch Titan II/X.

Interestingly enough, GM200 3072 CUDA cores @ 988mhz only have about 17% more SP compute performance over K6000 2880 CUDAs @ 900mhz. Sounds like Maxwell could bring more effective real world improvement in compute that isn't revealed in the spec comparison itself.

Darn, just bought a GTX970 G1 Gamer for rig 2 below. After seeing these pictures, I feel totally "inadequate":awe:

On a seriou$ note, any idea what one of these "Beasts" will $ell for?D:

799$ and up is my guess.

I both agree and disagree. I agree that its close. But we'll see if it's Titan II or merely another Quadro card.

I disagree on the last part. Lisa Su has stated that AMD will try to keep their stuff a lot closer to the vest than usual for 2015. Nvidia would also probably not go ahead with this unless they felt that 300-series was imminent.

It could also be a defensive move in the sense that they want to rush AMD into action(which I wouldn't mind), because AMD's stars are better aligned than Nvidia's in 2015, especially after the endless TSMC fiascos. Either way, well played Nvidia.

Now don't disappoint us with only Quadro.
I'm hopeful that they'll go all-out and release Titan II along with 960. Suddenly 22nd of January wouldn't be so boring.

I cant see any relation to AMD. nVidia wants to sell new cards. Waiting for whatever AMD does doesnt sell new cards. If anything, AMD will have to speed up. The leader doesnt wait for the runner up.

If the scale is correct in RS's pic, then here is the overlay between GK110 and GM200.

Green outlined area is how much larger GM200 is compared to GK110 (if these are to proper scale).

600mm2 ??

That's going to be pretty monstrous, looking forward to it.

Wonder if it will be SP- or DP-focused? Seems odd to launch a new DP oriented 28nm chip so soon after GK210.

EDIT: Just to clarify, if it is single precision oriented (unlike GK110/210) then it will be a monster for gaming.

For Compute GM204 blows away GK110 in SP. Look at the AT 980 review. The 980 has 10-30% lead over the 780 Ti yet a much larger lead in compute.

FLOP for FLOP Maxwell is significantly more powerful in compute than kepler.

Quadro parts are always clocked significantly lower than their desktop counter parts.

Not going to be surprised if it's around 600mm2, TSMC 28nm is certainly mature enough. Even if they price it the same as original Titan you'll likely be getting more mm2 per dollar.

In terms of release dates I submit my guess of GM200 Feb - early March, 390X sometime in April. Perhaps AMD will paper launch in March to try to reduce the impact of this beast hitting retail.

Is this the new metric we are all going to argue about from now on??

Beautiful and we'll probably see a GeForce version around June/July if we're lucky. I just picked up a pair of 980s too just to have something new. Guess I'll grab the GeForce version of GM200 whenever it comes out, no more Titans for me

And here I am, trying to make do with an HD4600 until I finish my exams so I can buy a GPU (Because if I had a GPU I could as well not even try to study, I'd spend my time playing BF4 and Inquisition). Bad thing is, if nothing is solid about a new card by the first 10 days of February, I'll probably go with the 970. Right now I know I'm going to regret it, but I can't stand not having a dGPU any longer. I've been playing a little BF4 on the iGPU (Which I've overclocked to 1650MHz at 1.19V and my memory runs at 2200MHz) at 1080p with 50-60% resolution scaling and everything set to low, and framerates are still so low I'm getting pwned all the time because it's SLOW. I mean, I react, but it's too late. I played on a computer with a Haswell i5 (Don't remember which one exactly) and a 760 and I played way, way, WAY better. Sigh...

Anyway, this is going to be an interesting round. A 600mm^2 behemoth versus a 300W TDP water-cooled monster? Nerdgasms all around boys!

Ya, I know. I was comparing M6000 GPU-Z specs to K6000. So Quadro vs. Quadro. Enigmoid got my statement covered. I forgot how much more efficient in compute the 980 was vs. 780Ti. GM200 could be an OCing/scaling champ. 1400mhz+ on MSI Lightning GTX1080Ti, and I can see near 1.5Ghz 970 SLI performance out of it. I have no interest in a $999 Titan X though since those come with a reference blower with capped TDP/voltage, which seriously held back the original Titan.

I really think NV will repeat mid-range --> Titan --> flagship strategy. All things are pointing to this. This allows them to maximize profits on a 980 and Titan while holding back 1080Ti until they can launch it with even higher clocks by Spring. With 16nm FinFets having delays to late 2016, I just don't see NV launching 1080Ti in the next 2 months. We'll see.

LOL I tried doing that when I was in med school and it was fine for the first two years because I was in the library all day. Once clinical rotations started, I switched to gaming laptops and then eventually a desktop my last year. Just get the dgpu now and enjoy some BF4 during study breaks.

I got a 780Ti, im debating if i should keep it when this comes out for a 4k monitor upgrade or get the monitor before the video card if its worthy upgrade.

I think a 780ti is fine for 4k for the games i play, but man..lol

Agreed. We're getting a Titan X (or whatever) first. A DP-castrated Geforce card will launch later on. Unfortunately this is the new norm. I think for any future upgrades, I'm going to be upgrading mid-cycle or whenever price drops + bundles occur.

Didn't think Nvidia would go for a die bigger than GK110. Bravo! I can't wait for GM200 and 390X to launch. We've been at the same performance level for way too long.
