Just went from 185 to 190.6, I can't use ambient occlusion for UT3 anymore wtf?!

Take a look behind you. That would be the line. Which you've crossed. Multiple times. You've succeeded in both getting your thread locked and earning a vacation in the process due to the petty insults.

Anything past 182.50 gives me BSOD on my 9800GX2, so I'm going to agree with you.

Me thinks I'll ebay this bad boy once the 5870's come out.

ok another new bug just came up, if I OC the card, after about 15 mins of 3D it would declock to 400/800/ and it is locked from that point on unless I reboot Windows, the 190 is a total waste of bandwdith..

For me I don't need to game....I can be at the desktop and still BSOD within a few minutes...yet with the 182.50's I'm rock solid.

Lots of ppl over at guru3d forums have trouble with anything past 186.18 driverset. I can't touch the 190.xx or I have a lot of various issues.

You may need to determine which background application is triggering 'performance 2D' clock speed and terminate it. Start with Windows Media Player. (Task Manager -> Processes -> wmplayer.exe and right click -> end process) Any application that's remotely related to display/video can be a suspect, including virtualization apps.

I installed the 190.62 WHQL drivers and I had no profiles-at all so I went back to the 190.38's.

I've been beating the crap out of this rig over the last few days.
Q6600 790i Ultra
6GB DDR3
GTX295
8600GT
Windows 7 64 bit
Crysis
Crysis Warhead
UT3
GRAW2
BMAA
Cryostasis
Mirrors Edge
Painkiller (for an older game)
FarCry & FarCry2
STALKER (first one)

Even o/c'd the rig to 3GHz. So far not any problems you guys are describing. So what's up?

Yusux: I haven't tried Ambient Occlusion in UT3, so I can't comment on that yet. I'll give it a try.

geoffry: Something is wrong with the configuration of your system if you BSOD while at the desktop.

Yusux: Reduction in clocks? What are your temps under full 3D load?

cmdrdredd: You have a 295 as well. What issues are you having? What OS?

False Christian: What do you mean you had no profiles? I have literally hundreds of profiles. Did you uncheck "Show only programs found on this computer" ??

Ya, the NVDA drivers...

If everything is rock solid stable until I change the drivers I think its safe to say its the drivers.

Same here but strangely people say the 190.62 work great in windows xp but not vista or 7 ?

How strange is that?

The other thing is all drivers after 182.50 or all 190. drivers, for some strange reason, make your tv out screen if you use this a lot smaller on the left and right. I have never found a fix to this and need to sense I use a projector. I don't want my 92" screen to be smaller than it needs to be. Sucks. I was reading with the newest nvidia drivers and wdm 1.1 there was going to be some horrible changes. Looks like that is one.

Then can you explain why my rig doesn't BSOD at desktop? Same driver, no?
Not saying you don't have a problem. You surely do, BUT, to BSOD at the desktop is YOUR systems configuration issue. If it was the driver, everybody would be BSOD at desktop.
This is where I wish everyone had a spare blank hard drive lying around. Fresh install of your flavor of Windows, all drivers, and poof!! Problems disappear (short of hardware issues). If your OS has a "history" of driver revisions and updates, you have more of a chance for something to go very wrong than someone with a fresh start. I just had mega problems with Vista32 last week. I was messing with driver changes too much (going back and fourth from 180's to 190's) and my system kept locking up time after time after time. I got fed up and formatted, installed Win7 64 bit (random choice), 190.62's. Stable ever since in all games listed above. I even remember locking up twice at the desktop in the Vista 32 setup. Not cool. But, it was MY doing. Messing with things far too much as no "average" user would do.

pcslookout: Using Win7 without any crashes..... yet. And I think I've tried a fair amount of games here.

I'm pretty sure its the video card used...the 9800GX2 is last gen and hence NVDA doesn't care about breaking it as much as say a 260, 275, 280, 285 or 295.

Thats my hypothesis anyways. Performance is the same on the drivers I use on the games I play than with the new ones so it isn't a critical problem for me.

I'll be keeping an eye on the 5870's from AMD and perhaps the "demo" of the GT300 series from NVDA in September and see whether an upgrade is in the cards for me...I wouldn't mind playing Far Cry 2 or GTA 4 but the low memory on the 9800 GX2 and lack of good drivers for the 9800GX2 on those games makes performance a bit lacking...but again, I'm still having fun with the card on the 182.50's.

I know it sounds strange but clicking or unclicking doesn't make a difference.

My temps at fullload with OC is 62~64c on 3D, you can ask this and that, but it still won't change the fact the latest nVidia drivers are POS

Thought I'd chip in....

I always upgrade to the latest NVIDIA drivers. I NEVER have problems. I run Folding@Home all the time when the rig is off. If it's not folding, I'm gaming. Keep in mind Folding@Home stresses my GPU more than the games that I play (CS 1.6)

You can talk as much as you want, it doesn't change the fact I downloaded 120mb of garbage Win7 drivers from nVidia.com

Things have pretty much been explained to you. If it was the driver, EVERYONE would be BSOD with them, wouldn't they? So cover your ears and scream LaLaLaLa like this and you won't get very far. Got another hard drive to spare? If so, you know what to do.

Not necessarily, many driver bugs affect just a particular configuration, such as a particular bios version, interactions with other drivers, etc.
