NVidia NvieW - Seeing Double!

Does anyone have any experience running Twinview or NvieW with the nVidia drivers? I want to run multiple monitors on my rig and I was curious about a few things.

Say you have one AGP card in your rig that supports dual DAC's. It should be easy to get NvieW up and running with two monitors (Even though I still don''t know how to plug the second monitor into the card seing it only has one VGA out). Now here is where the dilema starts. Lets say you add a second PCI card for a third monitor. Would NvieW know that this is supposed to be controled by itself or would Win98 take it over and hence you would lose some of the functionality of NvieW?

Lastly, Does using NvieW take away from your video performance? For instance if you were running Flight Simulator or Castle Wolvenstein on your main display and at the same time had something else running on the second display would you take a performance hit?

Would it be better to have two video cards in your rig? One running the main display and the other running the second?

Any imput on setting up this would really be appreciated.

Thanks

If your G3 has a DVI out, you can get a DVI to VGA adapter and use the DVI port to connect to a 2nd monitor, at least that is how it works with ATI's HydraVision. I haven't tried it yet, so I don't know if it works, or how well it works.

I'm not sure, but I dont think its possible to use mulitple video cards. Back in the old days I think it was possible, but not anymore.

You can put as many PCI VGA cards in your rig as you like along with your AGP card.
As for performance hit - if you start a game the secondary and other displays will be disabled by the game and go blank. You wont see any performance hit.
Adding PCI vga cards will not disable nView, you will just loose the use of some of the options in the Clone/Span, etc page of nView/Twinview and will need to use the OS's config page instead.
You will still be able to use other nView features though.

While I cannot address your specific questions, I do have a dual-VGA TwinView card running in WinXP with nView. With XP's multiple desktop power toy running 4 desktops and nView running for desktops, I can essentially have 16 "desktops", each 2048 x768 (i.e., 2 displays running 1024x768).

No, supporting dual DAC's is one thing, having the hardware implemented is another. You must have a dual head card with both connectors for dual heads to function.

The example that Beeker35 gives will not work either. If the GF3 he is talking about is the same as the GF2 with the DVI and VGA connectors, you can hook up the monitors, yes, but they will NOT work at the same time. They are not dual head cards and both connectors will not function at the same time. Unlike the Radeon cards with twin heads Ve, 7500 and 8500, those are all dual head cards both connectors can work at the same time.

The new GF4 cards CAN have dual heads, but they will have to have the hardware implemented for the dual heads to function. You will be able to get them with different combinations for instance, but you will not be able to make a single head GF4 into a dual head GF4.
