Nvidia nView

I have a 6600GT running on forceware 71.84. I have enabled nView in the card/display settings and was looking forward to testing the window transparency option. Unfortunately, I only get the following message:

Transparency is temporarily disabled because an application that uses DirectX or 3D hardware features is currently running

Has anyone else had this problem? Is it fixable or is there a work around? This message is always there even at startup. The apps that I have constantly running are:
Belkin BullDog (UPS)
BOINC (distributed computing software)
Ai Booster (Asus temp/overclocking utility)
Mozilla
NVidia settings
sound effect app
homeportal monitor
symantec AV
Trillian

It's pretty basic and I would be disappointed if the nView settings can't be used because one or several of these apps. If that's the case then it seems like pretty worthless features. The same issue also arose under the forcware 7644 drivers (which I replaced with the 7184's)

An update in the event anyone else has a similar issue. For unrelated reasons I adjusted my monitors refresh rate from 60Hz to 72Hz and now the transparency setting appears to be working fine.
