You have no proof it was a hardware problem. Incorrect drivers & other software related issues could have been the problem. A GTX 570 has 448 CUDA cores and does draw a lot more power, but nothing you've done so far proves it's the video card.

I have a similar problem with my card. Every time I go into game or watch a video, the screen goes black and my computer shuts down or restarts. The dump files mention a TDR error or nvlddmkm.sys.

It usually takes between a few seconds and a few minutes for this to happen, but it does occur without fail. I've tested the card in other systems and the same error occurs.

Full system specs, OS, and NV driver version will be helpful for diagnosis.

Could be going that way, especially since the card is failing only under load. A good test would be another video card that puts a good load on the unit.

I am curious about this update though. It is just addressing the issues from the last release, or is this some type of ongoing issue that is being addressed?

Since I don't use Chrome or Gsync, I honestly don't know.

I don't think it means that the freezes and TDRs are related to Chrome.

I think it fixes Chrome crashes, freezes, and TDRs.

DLing it now. I hope it fixes them, they're starting to get really damned annoying.

For that price range the AMD Radeon HD6850 is a better pick, same price, about 10 fps faster, however if you want an Nvidia card Id go with the 460, about the same price range, faster than the 550 Ti, and as always nvidia make better drivers.
